Does anybody have any experience using the two and any opinions?

say comparing a camera like this....

http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-XL-1S-DV-Camcorder-Barely-Used_W0QQitemZ150295151788QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150295151788&_trkparms=72:1205|39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

to a camera like this..

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-HF100-Definition-Camcorder-Stabilized/dp/B00114162K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1221822525&sr=1-1

I'm wondering if the xl-1 will have better picture quality from superior optics or if hd will have better picture quality based on number of pixels.

My other consideration is the ease of editing sd on a "normal" computer as opposed to needing the latest and greatest computer to edit hd.

TT,

I have used neither camera so I cant give you any opinion. What I'm curious about though is the intended use of the camera. They both look like quality cameras but their applications would appear to be rather different.

That XL looks to be totally badass but the other one would appear to way more user friendly. Are you upgrading or a pro or is this your first digital camcorder?

Im over here now
the XL1 is a far better model than canon's consumer camera's....especially their crappy hd cameras.
Id take the XL1 any time, but it all depends on what youre using it for and if you need a cam like the XL1
you also dont need a "high end" computer to edit hd footage. you will need a lot of storage space since HD typically takes up significantly more space than SD recordings.
stay away from flash based cams, look for HDD cams, or if you really want it, Mini-DV like the XL1
