So my bro-in-law and I were riding along and we got to talking about tires and squaring them off and what effect that has on ride quality, specifically cornering...but also rolling resistance in general.

Thus, I pose this question to teh monkay at large:

How square is too square?

Is it a personal preference type deal? Or is it real noticeable after awhile?

(He runs his setup @ 120psi front & rear)

Well, the more square, the more of a transition it's going to be to the sides of the tires for cornering, which could make things a little squirrely.
Also, more square means less rubber on top which means more chance of a flat or blowout.
Each tire wears differently though, especially the dual-compound treads, so it's a matter of taking a close look at the tire. When in doubt, replace it, better safe than sorry I say...

Ha ha...zing!!

back on topic:

Hmmm...indeed...

Yeah, he's running a Lithion rear and an Open Pro3 front...

I'm running Schwalbe Stelvio's F&R...I think my tires will probably outlast his wear wise...

I don't notice a transition while cornering, so I think I'm ok so far...but I'll bring it back up with him on this weekend's ride...
