Personally i haven't seen- or tried the new stem there, but whaddabout a Thomson...?... they are superstiff- and weigh a reasonable weight!....

thomson stems are the only way to go. you seen the ad where they've got a thomson stem holding a car up several feet off the ground????

as much as i trust the strength and the word of others, i just don't feel comfortable with the steerer tube clamping mechanism. i personally know of 2 people who have ovalized steerer tubes from using the thomson stem. the fact that it only contacts 1/2 of the tube doesn't seem as secure as the more traditional 2 bolt clamp. maybe some of the engineers (evil bikes) will chime in with their opinion.
