Nothing to see here folks, just free market capitalism at work.

Now I'm going to have to buy store brand cupcakes and twinkies...
As a company, they'll be back. Just taking a union break.
Eh they're going to liquidate. I'm not holding my breath. Sales have been declining for years, not sure if any food companies would even be interested in the brands.
So no more Twinkie factory in Natick?
Best hit up the Hostess outlet this weekend before it's gone!
The comments on face book are priceless. I saw it called "a white liberal conspiracy".
I guess you could consider people eating less junk food a "conspiracy"
This doesn't really effect anyone who gives even the slightest sh*t about their health.
They were slowly grinding down, but it was the union going on strike that finally shut them down. The CEO even told them that going on strike would be the nail in the coffin and that it would force liquidation. Great job guys... Go on strike because you are taking an 8% pay cut. Lose your job because the company went out of business.
The strike really only accelerated it. making the concessions would have only delayed the inevitable.
They have a factory in seattle. I used to live near it and once rode my bike past, while super hung over. The overwhelming stench of sugar, when hungover sucks. It felt like the sugar was getting into my pores...
Screw that. Oatmeal pies pretty much got me through high school.
Oh, wait. Thost aren't Hostess.
I heard this on the news on the way into work this morning. It's upsetting to think that the next generation may never know what a Twinkie is.
The guy I carpool with is from Sudan and has never had a Twinkie or a hoho. What an empty and sad life.
You obviously have the metabolism of a crack head so I don't really think this effects you.
It would be nice if a mom and pop operation stepped in and bought them out for a stupid low price and shrunk it down some to keep a US brand alive. Oh, wait...this is America. Conglomerates galore!!!
Sounds like a good job for Mittens. With all his free time and all now.
Twinkies. Made in China.
Now with 50% more melamine!
NO MORE TWINKIES?!?!?
As long as Little Debbie doesn't die, we are going to be ok.
michelle obama is happy.
The good news is, if you go stock up now, they will last through your lifetime, your children's lifetime, your grand children's life time, your great-great-grandchildren's lifetime.... until the end of the world really. It's ok, it's ok.
To me, they are missing the obvious barge. Relocate your factories to WA and CO, make new "re-formulated" weed-inkies and bud-cakes, profit.
Plus, it's basically a cyclical sales machine, as they eat the weedy treats, they get hungry for more junk food, they eat weedy treats, yet they're still hungry for junk food, etc...Maybe even branch out and make weed veggie chips to cover the salty snacks angle too.
Then maybe set up a promotion in which they turn in 50 proofs of purchase, Hostess sends them a months supply of insulin and needles.
As the resident fat ****, this deeply saddens me.
Weed-inkies. Fvcking brilliant.
Hemp-dongs? Or ding-bongs?
Paging Barack. Iconic American industry here.
No way. As stevew mentioned, Shelly is popping champagne at this news. Hubby gets national healthcare reform, she save some kids from the needle = winning.
Truth is, it won't surprise me if they break it up, reform under a different company name (sans unions) and start pumping out their little high fructose cakes.
"Snack giant Hostess shuttering U.S. business, but Canada unaffected"
So who wants to start smuggling Twinkies across the border to fuel the snack cake black market???
have you jackasses forgot about....
That could be a lucrative way to pay for a trip to Whistler.
Sucks that people are losing jobs, but I personally would be perfectly fine if future generations don't know anything about that crap.
The fact that people seriously feel nostalgia for this kind of thing is kinda sad. Keep calm and don't worry, the 7-11 will still be full of horrible stuff to put in your body.
Seems really odd that in a country, with a 35.7% obesity rate, a corn syrup ladened snack company could fail.
every union job is sacred...no matter what.
That's quite a group.
