Im building up a CX bike that has the BB86 bottom bracket setup.
I'm an MTB racer and have many MTB cranks with chain rings.
I know the standard BB86 is setup for Shimano and runs their cranksets and from what I have gathered if I wanted to run SRAM/Truvativ Cranks I would need to get the GXP BB86/91 bottom bracket setup.
Anyways I have a Truvativ MTB Stylo crankset which I had to space the stock BB86 non-drive side out with extra spacers to make it work. I really don't want to run it long in this setup because I think it may damage the frame after awhile so I want to get this fixed properly.
From what I can gather is that the MTB crank axle length are a little longer than the Road crank axles.
I want to find out if buying the BB86/91 SRAM GXP BB would allow me to run my MTB crankset on the BB86 frameset instead of me buying a whole new crankset and BB for the bike.
Has anyone out there gone through this same scenario? trying to run MTB cranks with BB86 setup.
I think I'm going to have to get the SRAM GXP BB and just use some spacer on the axle to fill in.
