Hey y'all. Thinking about getting a GPS because the roads here in CT seem to be set up at random. Yeah yeah, I know, they're "old," so they're allowed to wander in random directions, but the long and short of it is; it's easy to get lost.

Was looking at the Garmin 605 for help. I don't necessarily want it for route planning, though there is some of that, but partially for "ok, I'm here, how do I get home?" I don't need HR/cadence/power/etc, so the 705 isn't really for me I think.
But what about the 500? Will that do enough for what I want?

I have a couple of loops that I'm reasonably comfortable with, but honestly, one or two turns and I'd be wandering roads for weeks.

Thx everyone.

The 500 has no mapping function so that won't work for you. Check out the Dakota 20. I use one for road and mountain. Can use an HR monitor if you ever wanted to, can load custom maps, etc and free topos are available online too that are easily loaded on with the free Garmin software. The bike mount is $10 and is very robust though hard to fit on a stem less than 105mm. You can upload your rides to Garmin Connect if you want to keep track of them. I've had no problems reading the screen in all conditions and the touchscreen will work with gloves on.

Online they run around $290.

If you have a gps enabled smartphone that would work too, lots of apps out there.

That is a great idea. I was talking to James about this last week as I would love so GPS too for out of the city options. I already have my Polar and don't need more data. If I could use it in the car too it would be perfect.

The new Nuvi would be cool if the could be used on the bike too. Except if you get caught in a rain storm. I wish the could apply the same design to the bike GPS as I think they are way to big and bulky.

Not really too concerned with the price, I can get a deal, and having exactly what I want is more important to me. I'll check it out though, thanks for the info. That rules out the 500...

Where's your sense of adventure?

Don't you have a bike to be boxing up?
Don't you?
