Yeah I got his pics, unfortunately I opened them at work.

:)

I will give him an honorable mention but only a mention since I can't post pics of the porn laden box.

The award for the don't buy online gifts while you're home alone drinking your emotions away goes to Stinkyboy. He'll be receiving a pet rock of coal for this gem of an addition to the Vermont landfill .
Ha! I just saw this.

I must admit that I a real hard time with the SS this year. All in good fun, though, right?!

I PM'd him asking if he actually shipped. If not, to just say so, and if late that was cool just to tell me when. This is his reply. I wouldn't have even cared if he took any responsibility or had a single good excuse.

Looking for some feedback on the event this year.

First off the gifts get better every year. I love how thoughtful some people are and how much time they put into wrapping etc.... Good job to all of you with the few exceptions.

Please feel free to respond here or via PM or e-mail at rmsecretesanta at gmail .com

I'm always looking to improve and streamline the event.
-International Shipping: There will no longer be truly international shipping aside from Canada. I'm leaning towards saying that all who enter must be willing to ship to Canada. Is the cost of shipping to Canada prohibitive or does it make a difference?

-For new contestants should I require a security deposit? I know this is crazy but the people who don't follow through are always the newbies to the event. Any suggestions?

PS. PLEASE don't make this a pissing match just looking for quality feedback.

I would like to see this continue but the screw-ups are just unacceptable imho.

If you want in, put aside the money to buy and ship an item, if you can't, don't sign up. Maybe that is just to simple of a concept.

I agree with both points, at this point if you're willing to play you should be willing to ship to CA, overseas might warrant something different though. After seeing what went on this year I'd also like to see security deposits from first time participants.

So what would be a fair security deposit? $30 to a paypal account and it's returned upon the receipt of their gift? Anyone that fails to send a gift and provide a tracking number by the deadline forfeits their deposit and gets a permaban?

How about asking members to doublecheck their recipient's age before sending them beer? :monkey:
Was there an issue?

Next year I'm going to create a PDF that requires each participant to fill out all pertinent information such as sizes and AGES. Then I'll send that PDF to the Santas. We could just say no alcohol if people can't be responsible.

1. Don't ban beer. Beer made everyone involved in my little triangle of Santa much happier, and I got 90 Minute out of it. Banning beer will cause me to kill the underage. They can't play.

2. Matter of fact, if you're under 21, I say they can't play. We're adults here, and it seems those who tend to screw up tend to be those who aren't adults.

3. I know this year money was tight for everyone involved, but even with me out of work, my elf out of work, and my Santa low on funds, we made it happen. This whole "I'm an uber flake" thing needs to get solved by someone next season taking a pedal wrench to ing's face at a race. I'll throw my hat in the ring for designated hitter.

4. A deposit is a rad idea. If you screw up, its gone. Your person is getting a nice bunch of drinks.

I'm going to guess that this will take a lot of people out of it. The hassle of requiring a Paypal account, sending and receiving money, plus if anyone sells through their account they lose a few percent during the transaction, and adding an additional $30 "cost" (though temporary) to the whole deal...

So what'd we have? We had one member completely fail to send a gift. We had one other member send a crap gift, but still a gift.

I would say as long as consequences are enforced, it's not so bad. I'm not sure there's a great way to prevent this without also making participation substantially more difficult.

Just my $0.02 - but if everyone wants a deposit, then a deposit it shall be!

I have no problem making it an over 21 event.

Ban the nonsender right now. Put it up as a sticky in the lounge as to the entire story, front to back. Maybe also put him up in the bad sellers thing. The whole "my parents are out of town and NYE got out of hand" excuse is BULLSH!T. He's not welcome here anymore.

The lame gift issue? Well, that happens sometimes. Like a grab bag, not every gift is going to be a winner.

Oh I hope I get you next year, you're getting a box of coal.

Seriously though, I see your point but I think Stosh has done what he can to prevent flakes from joining however it has happened. Note though that we're not talking about deposits from everyone, just first-timers.

I'm not expecting anything. Nor am I upset. Really! Stinkboy's gift was in good fun! Yes, I would've preferred bike parts (or beer), but it's fine. I got a good laugh going thru all the stuff.

I, however, had a much harder time buying gifts this year. I think that maybe there should be a stricter guideline for what get put on each "Wish List." Or a higher post count total requirement to try to get a better feel for the assigned "monkey." I'm not interested in searching out and buying martial arts or women's fitness DVDs. Come on - give a list like that to family!

I'm still in for next year!:thumb:

The deposit would only be for NEW participants.
