Hi,

I need to ship my bike from San Diego, CA to Honolulu, HI. I was wondering what the cheapest (and yet still reliable and safe) way to ship my bike is. I looked into DHL and UPS and they quoted me about $200. Is that what I should be expected to pay? Is checking it in on the plane as a piece of luggage a bad idea? Even if I get it professionally dissassembled and boxed and mark FRAGILE on the box? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

I suggest you rent a wheeled bike cargo box and check it onto the plane with you. It may cost about the same by the time you're all done, but it'll probably be in better condition when you get to HI.

Hehehe.. provided some minimum wage baggage handler doesn't mistaken Honolulu with Hong Kong...
