You wouldn't ask that if you worked in construction/carpentry/roofing a lot. Same reason drills have fully auto settings. You get into a routine with a task and it saves a whole lot of time and a whole lot of blisters on your finger.

It's not really full- auto.
It needs either a trigger pull, or the nose of the gun to make conact with the piece of wood you are nailing.
You can , however, get either trigger, or nose, "bounce", where the firing of the gun causes a bounce forcing a second firing etc, unless you get your finger off the trigger. When that does happen, it WILL shoot a handfull of nails in a millisecond.
If that guy tripped while nailing something over his head, that spray of nails could have happened in less than a second from the gun "bouncing" on the back of his head. He was CRAZY lucky and Unlucky at the same time....
