What measurement must I take to size a Quick release Seat Collar?

I want to replace my bolted seat collar with a quick release but don't know which size it should be.

Any help would be great.

go to your nearest shop...they can eyeball it or use a caliper to measure it exactly....

Obviously, look to see if your current collar has a measurement stamped on/in it. If not, use calipers to measure the OUTSIDE diameter of the seat tube, where the collar will be placed. This is the measurement you will need. If you don't have calipers, or if this message is confusing, the bike shop is definately the way to go.

If the collar is still good, why not just replace the binder bolt with a QR bolt?

also, your front derailleur clamp size is the same as the seatpost clamp size, so if you know that, or it's stamped somewhere on the derailleur (it is sometimes) you're golden.

I have determined the size as 1 3/8 or 34.9mm

I did start out with a visit to the store, they told me I had an unusual size and couldn't help me.

I think your shop is full of it. Look at Big Mack's link. Every collar on there is available in your size.
