Hi XXX,

avg monthly temps at PHilly: and Departure from Normal

Dec 2002 - 35.4 -2.0 from normal
Jan 2003 - 28.5 -3.8 from normal
Feb 2003 - 29.9 -4.9 from normal

Here is a link from the Mt Holly, NJ office that lists the top ten
snowiest winters:

http://tgsv5.nws.noaa.gov/er/phi/snowiest.htm

Here is a graph of winter temperatures from the Franklin Institute Science
Museum (where I used to work):
You can compare the avg monthly temps from above to this chart:
http://www.fi.edu/weather/data2/images/wthrwntr.jpg

Here is a link to the NJ State Climatologist:
http://climate.rutgers.edu/stateclim/

Based on data so far from these websites I would say this year was not the
2nd snowiest winter but it was definitely in the top 10.

I am going riding for the first time this year today. It has been very
snowy in Central Pa and the woods have finally melted out.

Ron

latest i've heard: massachusetts has a state wide driving ban
Up to a year in the clink if you are caught and prosecuted, Fukin pathetic. I understand it is a pretty heavy snowfall but a lot of places in the northeast get that or more on a regular basis. It's business as usual here until we are getting 2"-3" an hour for 10+ hours non stop

its more that its a state of emergency type deal... they don't wanna tie up emergency personnel and first responders for some fat asshole that wanted to go to the bar

Comparison from 2010 showing that this storm is still weaksauce, shot from the road visible in the above photos, looking back towards the house:

That is Hokkaido (Japan), if I'm not mistaken. Note driving on left.

Couple things:

to everybody who said MA sucks...you're right. The only thing worse is upstate NY.

It's not that nobody should be off the roads as much as people who THINK they can be on the roads should be off the roads. Growing up in Syracuse, you know when to wait it out. People around here think they'll just hop on over to shwoahs after the gym then go home...not gonna happen with your bald tires on your prius.

Finally...MA has probably a 10th of the snow budget that buffalo alone has. We have things like public education and subways out here, y'all just get more plows and salt. Syracuse always had clean roads. Of course, they didn't put any money into actually making the city nice, but you could get around easily.

Hey! I was on the 'subway' in downtown Buffalo today, although it goes no where and seems more like a direct ride to the local psychiatric center it's still a subway if it goes underground right?

The main difference is that you can understand what the conductor says on the train in Buffalo. On the T who knows WTF they are saying.
