I've been using the current xt brakes for dh for about a year with few issues. The other night I pulled the lever and it made two snapping sounds and then the caliper stayed locked on the disc. I took apart the lever assembly and nothing is broken, however it appears that the hydronic piston is staying pushed into the lever body.

Has anyone encountered this before. Can anyone explain how to remove the plastic lever pin housing and remove the lever piston?

I'm thinking that I've either broken a spring or the piston is jammed with dirt. I've had some pretty muddy races on these brakes.

Thanks

Update, the piston does not come out from the lever side of the lever body.
