They need help fighting off isis. This deal let’s us keep killing who we want to kill while ending the nation building folly. Win-win. The taliban just want to be left the fuck alone ultimately and value that more than money.

More than anything this deal sounds like a way to reduce troop risk while having a pass to rain missles/spec-op raids as needed against isis.
If it fails we’re just back to where we’ve been.
