Team TIBCO 2nd and 5th at Cascade Classic

<p>Team TIBCO worked tirelessly today in Stage 1 of the Cascade Classic to help deliver Megan Guarnier to a second place finish in the McKenzie Pass Road Race. The U.S. National Road Champion’s podium finish propelled her into second place in the overall general classification standings. Teammate Amanda Miller also made her mark today, taking 5th in the 74-mile, summit finish road race. Young rider Lindsay Myers moved into third place for the Best Young Rider competition.</p><p>

“The Team did an excellent job working together and taking charge in today’s race,” said Team TIBCO European directeur sportif Angela van Smoorenburg. “Megan and Amanda finished strong, and now Megan has a chance to contend for the overall.”</p><p>
</p><p>
During the first big climb of the day, 2 2 miles into the race, a 3-woman break took off gaining 45-seconds on the main field. With no Team TIBCO riders represented up the road, the Team worked diligently at the front of the peloton as they mercilessly pushed the pace and reeled the riders back in.</p><p>
</p><p>
With the riders caught, a counterattack was in order as the women descended the mountain. A breakaway of 9 riders formed almost immediately, with Guarnier and Miller making the jump. The group quickly gained 1 minute over the field.</p><p>

At the start of the final 8-mile climb, the breakaway’s gap from the main field had grown to 1 minute 40 seconds. With the peloton hot on their heels, the breakaway began to split with Guarnier and Miller represented in the lead group. Kristin Armstrong launched an attack from the main field in the final 3 kilometers, taking the win for the day.</p><p>

After today’s top performance, Guarnier stands just 46 seconds back from GC leader Armstrong, poise d to contend for the general classification.</p><p>

Guarnier, Miller and Myers are joined by Team Captain Meredith Miller, U23 U.S. National Criterium and Road Champion Samantha Schneider, U.S. National Criterium and Road Championship Silver Medalist Lauren Hall, and former Canadian National Champion Veronique Fortin.</p><p>

Tomorrow, the riders race against the clock in the Stage 2 Time Trial.</p>
