I was driving back from China Camp thru San Fran, and I noticed an ad on the side of a bus for The North Face store. I was at a light, so I had time to look at it. It was 6 guys hauling boxes and what looked like a barrel up a mountain side, and the caption said Peru. They had their loads strapped to their backs.
What got me thinking was that all their faces were blacked out. It almost look natural, until I was thinking: who carries boxes and barrels up the mountain: local Sherpas.
I was wondering how it would look to a bunch of rich people buying North Face gear at the outlet store to see a bunch of natives (in this case, Peruvian Indians) hauling a bunch of crap for a well-funded mountain expedition. I wonder if the guilt would set in....
