Hi all,

As you’ve probably already heard, the DNR began work to shut down the NF to mt. biking beginning yesterday.

A group from Whatcom Trails Co-Op and Evergreen met with DNR two Friday's ago and the meeting didn’t go well. They were unable to even discuss an interim solution with the idea of working towards a long-term plan. It’s sad because our group has actively been at the table with DNR for many years to determine a solution. The biggest overarching issue is there are no authorized areas to recreate on DNR land for ANY user group in Whatcom County. None, and that’s why ALL user groups have created their own trail networks. For an area with such access to the outdoors, that is the elephant in the room.

What can you do??
Please see the info. on the Evergreen page, talking points and the proper people to contact. The most important folks to write are Commissioner Goldmark and our legislators. One IMPORTANT item: please print out your emails, sign them and send a hard copy to the people you do email. Yes, snail mail sucks….but it makes a big difference. Please consider the fact that many builders have 5+ years and thousands of hours into their trails, so your effort is very much appreciated.

It is sad and ironic how the builders have attempted to keep the area on the DL (however futile) for so long, that it’s gone public this way. That said, the final weekend of shredding was a celebration of the trails even with some of the gnarliest weather we've seen out there. It really just reinforced to me what an amazing building and riding community we have in the 'ham and beyond.

Cheers and many thanks for the support!
