is the performance spin doctor truing stand okay? i know youll tell me to buy park tool but i can't afford it.

Save a few more $'s and buy the Park.

I used the Spin Doctor to build a wheel and it seemed to work fine. The park is probably better, but for as often as I'm going to use it, probably not worth the extra expense.

I have got a Spin Doctor truing stand (2-years old), works okay. Bought the Spin Doctor since the Park costs more and I don't use the truing stand too often. I don't regret buying the Spin Doctor as I have never had a problem truing a wheel with the stand, it does take a little longer with the Spin Doctor though.
