I got engaged evoc fr enduro last year, it is amazingly comfortable, has removable "spine protection" and plenty of capacity, 2 120oz bladders, tubes, tools, lunch, cloths... if you run hot there is a drawback in that the spine protection thingy holds heat.
nice looking pack, but sounds like more than i need. this is mostly for xc / light trail rides.

You are looking at it from a male's point of view: logical and biased towards problem solving.
Never underestimate the bond between a mother and daughter... esp when they hate each other.

Get an Osprey. Mine have been worlds better than the last Camelbak I had.
:stupid: MUCH better build quality than my old Camelback. MUCH more useful space, considering the Osprey I got was *smaller* (on paper) than the CB I tossed. Better ventilation, better suspension, and way better bladder including much better access to said bladder.

Of course, CB may have addressed some of these issues since my old Mule.

I am still waiting for this phase with my own kid. Right now the ex has put so much energy into making our daughter hate me that its all she has. I know it happened (a rebelling against moms) a little after I moved in here when she called out of the blue for a visit. But since she has dropped out of school, that's all changed. I will never fully understand not just the hate, but the need to make others hate, too. She needs people "on her side" there is no in between.

Raining, again. Snow in the mountains. Major roads closed (50 west, 80 a mess, 88/89 looney). People panicking that they won't be able to get back home (Sac/Bay area/etc). Drive to/from work would've been better on a fat bike with studded tires. Taking wife to see Purpose of Dogs, then maybe a redbox flick if something is out. And some free slot play at our new favorite local casino. Might even fit in a walk with the dogs, too.....

I went from a Mule (or was it M.U.L.E.?) to a Transalp to a Fourteener, all Camelbak. The design indeed improved except that they got rid of my Transalp's handy stowable rain cover.

yea? what do you like better about it?

worth noting: i'm not looking for something huge. maybe a liter or liter + half of water, space for tool, phone, keys.
To be honest I don't know what improvements Camelbak has made in the years since I had my last one (maybe 5 or so years ago?), but I much prefer the Osprey bladder. I like the rigid back to it, prefer the bite valve, and like that it has the magnet to keep it on the sternum strap. It also seems to gunk up less quickly than the Camelbak reservoirs did. The Osprey pack in general just seems to wear better for me; it transfers a lot of the weight onto my hips, remains stable even when loaded up, and breathes worlds better. Even my wife, who complains about the weight of backpacks, finds the Osprey comfortable.

Kiddo is on vacation this week and I am taking a off tomorrow to take her and I snowboarding. Can't work all the time.

Stupid question time. How do you embed or link Youtube videos to appear in posts? I have been trying to post a link in the What are you listening to thread and am failing.

@jonKranked You can now get Fanny packs with bladders for the full enduro experience.

I have no idea where I am
I used Camlebaks from the very first model up til the mule several years ago. Switched to Osprey and am quite pleased. Osprey packs are simply better designed as they are made by a backpack manufacturer.

However, the new style of bladder has a zip-lock type closure that makes me nervous. I'd recommend their packs made prior to last year that still use the screw on cap bladders.

I have two Ospreys, one for regular rides up to 3 hrs and one for all day Pisgah adventures which can hold a shit ton of water and gear without killing my back.

Hmmm looks like I may need to go play in the woods again since I over slept and flowers are blooming, trees are budding, and geese are back. Can't believe it's Spring time in February. That will be three riding days in a row, Hell Yeah !

I really wish that ALL of them would do a bladder closure like Deuter. It is unrivaled, IMO:

Deuter's valve dribbles in my experience, though. Dislike.

I dunno man, looks like the new one used by Osprey which IIRC is made by Nalgene. I pretty much destroy every zipper I come in contact with. Add water to that equation and you have the potential for disaster. To me it makes about as much sense as trying to transport soup in a zip-lock bag.

The Platypus pack that I use has the same type of closure. No way would I ever go back to screw on cap style or just a ziplock type closure. The plastic lock thing presses a ziplock closure together and then also latches onto the actual bag; it has never leaked.

And it has a quick disconnect thing for the tube, which actually works and comes in handy.

Nope. As far as I can tell, the closure itself is simple and bulletproof. the whole end of the bag folds over and the plastic piece crimps/seals it. Wife's, I believe, is going on 5 years with nary an issue. And it's SO easy to get into to clean.

Well - it was a few old Camelback screw-lids... so perhaps just crap? The Osprey hasn't leaked on me - but that doesn't make that nice full-open Deuter model a better design. Will have to check the current Osprey version to see how it works...
There's your problem. The Camelbak bladders repeatedly failed to the point that the pack had to be kept vertical at all times to avoid spilling water. That's one of the main reasons I switched to Osprey.

In hell. Welcome!
The best feature of the original Osprey bladder - the handle being a de-facto frame, making it easy to insert even if your bag is full of crap.
