When I commuted in Cambridge, I locked the bike with a chain and padlock. When I rode, it was around my waist. Instant weapon, used it two or three times, generally show of force was all that was necessary. Also did a ride-by shooting with a Wrist Rocket once...
I really don't but our trails are covered by standing water and I didn't want to be that guy.
OTOH, I *had* to use the opportunity of a sunny 72F day in February....

Waiting sucks. My experience, from both sides of the equation is that this kind of thing falls to be bottom of people priority lists and always takes longer than expected. It was 3 months between my interview and offer for this job, thankfully I didn't need a job at the time.
The bike vlog guys don't like the newer models because of a weird interaction between the USB cover door and the audio when they plug in their fancy gimbals. For your use any model should be fine.
I'd recommend perusing the e-bay and Craigslist world for a used Hero 3. There are piles and piles of those around so you should be able to get a good price. All the Hero 3 and newer cameras have a looping recording setting where the camera records in a continuous loop overwriting the old footage so you can use it as a dash cam/surveillance camera for longer time periods without filling up your SD card.
It's a good thing I'm an easy going bloke and just laugh most crap off.
I'm half way done this ride but so far I've been detoured by multiple floods, spilt a delicious salty caramel truffle beer in the back of my car, almost got hit by some bro-truck-dude trying to do a burn out, twisted my handle bars on a giant hole, rode through duck poo, rode through the flock of ducks that laid said poop, rode through a river and left my Allen keys at home.
No worries though. I'm on a bike, not in snow, wearing some Pisgah socks, and it's fun.
And the fog feels like it's 20 degrees cooler than the surrounding air.
Btw. I just got almost run over on my ride by a twentysomething white trash asshole on the only lights I had to take between back roads and more back roads. Asshole in a decommissioned Vic cruiser had to pass me 20ft from the lights only to park in the right lane waiting for the green light, and buzzed me by like 4 inches for no apparent reason other than to show me what he is thinking about bikers. For about 2s, I was toying with the idea of pulling him out of the side window by his hair, only to quickly cool down and realize he is not worth the impeding deportation, so we just yelled at each other until he got green light. Drivers in Mass fucking suck their mama's dick.
This is basically what happened to me. Guy was obviously wanting to make a point. Since he was at a red light and his window was open, i went up to him and asked if that was necessary. He didn't answer so much as barked at me to go fuck myself. i was so taken aback that I punched him in the face and tried to drag him out of his car. I wasn't really thinking, more like just reacting. He rolled up his window and drove off as the light turned green, then rolled it back down as he was halfway through the intersection (he was turning left) to chirp at me some more. So yeah, i figured in the US that interaction could have gone really badly for me. And i should probably chill out a bit.
All of the internal parts of my grill have been stolen. I left it unlocked for 12 hours. They unscrewed the legs and wheels to steal the tank. I know betterer.... They took my wheel barrel also.....

Having friends in food (cooks, bloggers, fat people) will give me a heart attack. FFS. A friend of mine went to France, came back with gifts full of cheese, lardons, goat sausage. I feel fat now. Very fat.
