Upgrade from Dura Ace 9 to 10?

I bought my Seven Axiom Ti in 2003, custom built, with a full Dura Ace group and Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels. It was smoking hot.

Six years later, the group is still servicable, although I tore off the original rear derailleur. I also built up a pair of Open Pro's on DA hubs for training wheels

I want to send my frame back to Seven for a refurb and new labels. Now the question is to get a new group or keep using the old one.

I'm leaning to getting new, even though I can't justify it.

Advice?

I would snag the prev. generation used.....it will save you a lot of money. Personally I don't see much point in going with DA over Ultegra unless you get a good deal on it.

I'd say stick with the 7800 kit, the 7900 is good, but honestly I think that 7800 is a more refined group. Unless you're going Di2, which is overkill (god but how I want it), and unless there is a place designed to fit the battery, it can look a little janky. Hey, maybe Seven can rework the frame and add battery tabs on the non-drive chainstay... :)

Buy some 7800, and with the leftover scratch, replace the cockpit too, or just buy yourself a nice new helmet or riding kit...

A custom Seven is on my "someday" list. Maybe when I don't work for a bike manufacturer it'll be easier to make happen.

I just ordered a custom blackberry Oakley C-Six that controls Di2 based on my eye movement.

Anyway, I am going to wait for the next version, the chip implant that not only controls Di5 with just thought, it also feeds you GPS coordinates directly to your brain, allows the NSA to track you, and with the special upgrade from Amgen, it will stimulate your endophin glands for higher pain threshold.

Back to reality, I am leaning towards DA 7800 drivetrain with an Ultegra compact crank. I rather switch to a BB30, but besides having to replace the BB shell, I am unsure if BB30 or simply inserting the Shimano bearing rings like Pivot bikes will be the standard.

How are the wheels doing? How about an wheel upgrade first?

Remember to show us some pictures when the upgrade is done. Being able to do something like that really shows the strength of but material choice and builder vs. carbon mainstream.

Those SLs are workhorses, they'll go forever!

Agreed, Seven is a cool company, and ti is a perfect example of what you can do with a truly forever custom bike.
