DONATE A BIKE!
Saturday, June 9, 2007
9:00AM - 12:00
MC building entrance (main building at Penn and 18th
World Bank
1818 H St NW

A bicycle can get someone someplace....like from poverty to self-sufficiency! Put your old bikes to good use! Donate them to Bikes for the World on Saturday morning, June 9.

EXT's Community Outreach Program is supporting this bike drive on behalf of Bikes for the World on Saturday, June 9 at 9:00am to 12:00noon at the Main Complex Building entrance. The Community Relations programs at the IMF and IDB are also co-sponsoring this event.

Bikes donated on June 9 will go to a charity in Costa Rica known as Fundacion Integral Campesina (FINCA Costa Rica). After shipping to Africa (three different groups in Ghana) in May, Bikes for the World will focus on Central America in June, with shipments planned for Panama and Guatemala, in addition to FINCA Costa Rica.

A $10 per bike donation is suggested to help defray the cost of shipping to the Latin American charities, who also repair the bicycles and then distribute them to people who need them. Checks will be accepted, and receipts will be provided. Bike-related items (spare parts, accessories, books and tools) as well as operating portable sewing machines will also gratefully be accepted.

Founded in January 2005, Bikes for the World is a sponsored project of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. In cooperation with mid-Atlantic community service organizations, Bikes for the World collects unwanted bicycles and related items, and delivers them at low cost to development programs assisting the poor in developing countries.
