You might want to tell people what terrain you will be using them on as well as your old tyres and where you think they lacked.
Tyres are one thing I prefer to buy from a shop as you can look at the size (can't trust the size on the sidewall) and tread as well as rubber hardness. You will pay more due to the fact the lbs proberly doesn'tt buy it's tyres from dodgy sources and has higher overheads, but for tyres it's often worth it.
The guy that posted previous to me made some really good points. Where you ride has a lot to do with the type of tires you want to use.
I am in Norcal and use the Wild Gripper 2.5's front and rear and love them. They are pretty heavy tires though so take that into consideration. I know a lot of people are using the weirwolfs around here too and like them very much as well. I am willing to bet that they are lighter than the Wildgrippers.
