For those of you who don't know this is kind of a big deal for us in the DC / Baltimore area. Whitetail used to be open to bikes in the past but has since been closed. They may, based on turn out for this event, open again to bikes. It's proximity to DC/Baltimore makes it a very attractive venue.

It would relieve a lot of pressure from the local trail and land managers if it were to reopen. Right now there is a lot of user conflict and problems with bootleg trails and the land managers are getting pretty antsy. Rumors fly (as rumors are apt to do) that some trails might be closed to all bikes, DH, Xc and otherwise.

The local advocacy groups are working hard and making great strides towards including more technical features in local parks but the reality is they just don't think that they will be able to build the really big stuff and would really like to see a place like Whitetail open.

We really need a good DH / Freeride trail system that is close to the DC / Baltimore area. I know that the first Snowshoe race is that same weekend but come out and support the local scene. It might make a big difference in the long run.

Thanks.
