The vast majority of criminal acts are committed by morons. Several big-city cop buddies of mine over the years point out that people of average intelligence don't usually break the law because they understand basic risk-assessment and often make enough money just putting their nose to the grindstone and having a real job.
Super-smart 'caper' type crooks [a la Danny Ocean or the guys in the Italian Job] don't really exist because if they're that smart, they can make a better wage in the business world anyway.
There are, maybe, 1/10 of 1% that are that clever, but most crooks are idiots.
For example, Warren Buffet could have raped his Berkshire Hathaway for as much money as Ken Lay raped Enron. Or, he could just run it properly and make about 20 times more money.
