I have X7 shifters that I have taken apart and cleaned but the levers still don't return smoothly. I'm looking at X0 shifters on ebay...I just want to make sure they'll work with X9 derailleurs. No problem right?

Right. so long as all parts are the for the same # of gears (ie, 9-sp, 10-sp) you'll be fine.

Almost all middle to upper end SRAM is 1:1 Gearing so you should be all set as long as the speeds match.
