Hey XC guys...

Anyone who's used a Mavic X3.1, please tell me...is it comprable to the Mavic:

1) 517
2) 519
3) 618

I'm looking to build a light wheelset for my RFX for pedal-y riding. I am about to use 519s (the world's best strength/weight rim!), but I'd kinda like to try a true UST system. Unfortunately, I think the x3.1 is going to be most like the 618 or 517, but figured I'd ask and not ass-ume...

It weighs about 450 grams but I'm not sure if that includes the 32 aluminum inserts. The disc version is a tall section rim so it should be pretty strong. Its the same rim as they use on the Crossroc Disc wheelset but with holes for 32 instead of 24 spokes. They've proved plenty durable for my 140#s over a full season of racing, trinning and North Shore rides.

Sweet! Sounds like they should be all right for me, then, too.

Thanks.

That weight doesn't include the nipple-holder-oner-thingies(required), which bring the actual weight up to about 515 grams. Plus, you need to use 16mm long nipples, as opposed to standard 12mm nipples, which will add a bit more weight. They build very strong wheels though. I have a budy riding them, king hubs, sapim cx-ray spokes, and hasn't had to touch them in 5 months of hard riding. He's 225 and on a hardtail as well. Hope this helps.......

Actually you can use the shorter nipples. I did on my first pair because the shop gave me the wrong ones and I forgot to check. Worked fine.
