I've been using WTB Motoraptors 2.4's for my trail riding for a while now. They are burly enough not to flat, but lack bite. I'm looking for a really grippy tread that won't pinch in 2 minutes. So far if I run anything smaller than 2.25" I pinch flat. The terrain here is rocky, dry hardpack with lots of shale and stuff mixed in.

So far I've had good luck with my new Tioga Factory 2.1....I ran it as my rear tire racing at Sea Otter... it worked real well despite putting two flat spots on my rear rim (atleast I didn't pinch the tube in the process)...

I've been running some Larsen TT tubeless the past couple weeks. Its rained here nearly every day since the beginning of March, seriously. The trails are pretty soupy but I'm staying hooked up really well. They make that tread in a 2.3. I saw some in a wire bead version at the shop the other day. The casing was still racing style supple.

Michelin's Comp24 2.2" comes in a 'Lite' format for 2003 that is 850g - a nice option!!
I really love the Maxxis Highroller, which comes in 2.35" Single Ply, I think it was like 795g or something.
Oh, and the Gazzaloddi Core tires comes in a 2.3 that's around 800g too. It's nice.

The comp 24 2.2" lite? Thats very interesting. I hear great stuff about michie rubber. Grippy, good wear life. If the sidewall is tough enough, we have a winner!

maxxis' xc line up has improved a LOT over the years.the tt's are nice from what i've heard. a buddy of mine works over at maxxis but we are sponsored by hutchinson so i run the pythons. i've run those tires now for years (before they were a sponsor) and they are KILLER tires. would highly recommend those before i'd recommend the TT's only b/c i haven't ridden the TT's and believe me when i tell you that literally everyone has tried to copy the python's basic design and no one has come close to it w/ the exception of michelin.
i'm running the python airlites right now and find that they lack a little in dry loose powed sandy rockey stuff. the mimos seems pretty good in those conditions and i would expect the TT's to do better because they have more knobs.
dude get me some comps. i want the ultra light TT excetion 62's in the 2.0".

what the heck would you use 2.4's for? It takes me like 4 times as long to get to the trail when I put on a 2.25 intense and a 2.1 michellin for mud riding. I am not even sure what you are talking about is xc anymore.
I seriously could not see passing up my maxxis mofo 1.95's for anything right now. absolutely nothing would be able to do what they are doing for me right now.

Did you not read my post? I PINCH FLAT. 1.95's don't hold air 30 seconds down the trail here. Its really rocky. 2.4's are on the big side, but they are 850g tires, not total pigs. The climbs are very steep and loose and high pressure skinny XC tires just suck here. I know this why? I've ridden these trails for the last decade and have been through many different bike set ups.
Let me clarify further.. I Don't race XC. And the bike I use for XC has to do it all; Slalom, jumping. Thats why I titled it 'XCish'

I personally don't care for the Moto 2.4. Have you ever seen/tried the 2.24?
Also, if you ever get the chance, check out the Mutano 2.24; it's a pretty versatile tire.
I think that is called 'all mountain riding' you do. not xc. not even close to xc. different bikes fit tires like that. I am envious really, I got nothing even remotely close to terrain around here.
"All mountain riding"? WTF? That sounds like more marketing jargon than I want to get into. If you ride XC here you tend to run big tires, even full on XC racers sport at least a 2.1, usually bigger up front.

I run Panaracer Smoke Classic 2.1 Kevlar on the back of my trail bike. Aggresive tread wide enough not to skip on descents wide enough for mud shedding.
I was told to buy a Continental Vert Pro 2.3 on the net for the front but i've decided from hearing horror stories of local guys i ride with rippin out the sidewalls soooo. I went on the cheap and am gonna give the Performance Roller Pro 2.3 Kevlar a few days in court. We'll see how they work.

I use ritchy motovaders in a 2.4 for similar terrain(sandstone though). At about 800gr ish they're not too heavy and i ride at 30psi with notubes(i'm 100kg).
I've Been riding them for 3 months, no tears in the sidewall, no knobs have been ripped off and no pinch episodes. When climbing you better sit down though as they do lose traction on loose rock when you stand up and place too much weight over the bars,On hardpack climbs no problem. You can spin them around to make them faster with the ramp up design but it doesn't make a huge differance. Worth a look at!.

The Specialized Roller Pro's have got my confidence. Rode today down wet slick rooty rocky muddy fast and slow curvy etc and it did the job.
