I'm trying out jwick's use of a zee derallieur with a x9 shifter using a 6mm spacer I machined myself.

This is on my 2011 canfield jedi.

I'm using the DH zee and I'm using a 28-12 cassett.

I can shift through all the gears and shifting up doesn't seem to be an issue, but I have issues shifting down from the third to the 2nd smallest cog. If I shift again it just skips it and flips to the smallest cog.

The pulley appears to be aligned with the 2nd to smallest cog but it's rather far away which I think is the issue. With the b-tension screw all the way out I'm still at least 20-25 mm away from the largest cog.

Has anybody else encountered this? I could see this being an issue if I got the FR version (36t) but the box said DH.

I bought the DH one by mistake and bent my mech trying to run 8sp 32-11, it needed quite a bit of chain tension to shift nicely in gears 7 and 8.

Also to other people, don't go 8 speed there is too little spring tension to keep the shifting nice, I'll go 9spd like the OP with the next mech.
