road bikes can handle a surprising amount of off-road abuse  . i had to spend a summer sans mtn bikes, and the road bike was pressed into service quite a few times on dirt and gravel trails. i felt so fast, too :D

Try jumping on it. At Whistler last year I saw a guy at the DJ park with a bike that looked ot be from the 60's, the big curving bars, banana seat, etc. He was doing pretty good on it, doing no footers and whips. It was funny to watch.

as long as there's no color coordinated spandex, it's all good...but I ask, why a dedicated road bike when you could have a Cyclo-cross bike and still be able to haul serious ass on and off road...

awesome....

Green River trail is pretty cool for road riding, it starts just south of Georgetown and winds up in Auburn if you ride the whole thing. I usually ride from my casa in Normandy Park back roads the whole way 3 tree point, Seahurst, Fauntleroy, Alki, SODO, then hit the Green River.
Burke Gilman is pretty cool too, you can start in Ballard and ride all around the lake to that park in Redmond.
I tell ya what though, i fear for my life on the road bike sometimes. Riding on the road in the city with all these crazy drivers is more dangerous in my book than Duvall.
Have a blast 150 bones is dirt and beats the hell out of a trainer. How the hell are you supposed to get fresh air and flirt with girls on a trainer in your living room....

I imagine that most people know that my smilie is funny for a couple of reasons. One, because it's funny and two, because I ride a road bike.

The anti spandex thing always cracks me up. Ask Oly how long his anti spandex campaign lasted after he got his road bike last year.

You really do need a chamois/pad down in the junk area unless you are racing or doing super long distances. Really only then wearing skin-tight clothes would help cuz it reduces drag, and if you ride road bikes it actually really does help. i always thought that skintight spandex for mt. bikes helped on xc only to maneuver from the front to the back of the saddle without getting hung up. But the new xc races are wide open on easy freeway oversized singletrack, so i suppose the same rule applies to a lesser extent.
I'm always wearing some sort of bike short with chamois or pad even when i do downhill. Crouching Skookum Hidden Spandex.

And now.... for the rest of the story......
