It was my first race and...
I did ****ty. There's no way around it, I made mistakes before the race even started. I ran 6 (maybe even 7) full-bore practice runs as to 4 like everyone else, which wore me out the the point where I was on half empty by the time the race started. When it was time to make my first race run, I hadn't streched out enough or drank enough fluids. Ten feet out the starting gate my legs were cramping up (couldn't really straighten my legs at all) and my mouth was dusty and utterly dry. I managed a half decent speed all the way down to the last section in the woods and slid out in that dustyass rut thing.
Theeennn it all came down. My shoe came off AND my chain dropped. When I tried to put my shoe back on, the sole jammed up in the front so I had to ride with half a shoe on my foot AND I couldn't pedal in any of the last woods section. Finished the race and didn't bother listening for my result. (I was the kid cussing up a storm at the bottom) Took the lift back up and did my second run. No real problems except I slowed down so some guys could pass and and crashed again and got tangled in a tree. Got a 7:02, my friend AJ (zjchaser) slammed down a 6:30. It was his first race too.
So all in all, I learned a lot about racing and next time I'll do better. I couldn't race to my full potential, but there's always next time...
