only con is the weight, otherwise it's an awsome bike. find yourself a pro since it is considerably less expensive then the dh. all you need is a chainguide

The pro is going for under $3000. It is not unbearably heavy. It is on the slightly heavier side of the dh scale but seems indestructable and pedals great. Low center of gravity handles great. Just as heavy as a V10.

$2500-2700 too expensive? thats a whole bike spec out pretty well There are frames out there that cost as much and aren't built as well. Plus lifetime warranty.

for me, the only con of the d9 is weight ! it is 2 lbs heavier than most high end dh frames .
that said , its performance is just mind blowing - stiff as hell , pedals good , soaks everything in a way i didnt thought possible in a mtb , corners amazingly and the shorter cs combined with a pretty long wb = extremly stable yet manuverable dh rig.

the weight issue is a bit of a problam for some , though u could make up for it with some cash (ti spring , tubless , light bar an seat post etc etc).

i myself got the 04 dh model for about 3.5 k and couldnt be happier !

I love mine. There are two major things that you'll need to change out. First off, the cassette. The one that comes on it it awful, it creaks, and has a ton of play. I'm putting a Sram 9.0 on mine, I can't stand Shimano this year. Then, the headset is a bunch of crap. Other than that, it's awsome. I still can't get over it, best bike I've ever owned. Go for it dude, you'll love it. :)

Can anyone send a number of a shop that's got em on sale for the quoted price above? The cheapest I've found so far is $3300...
That was what I saw on the showroom floor at Supergo Mtn View. You can get the number off their website. They had maybe 3 frames, and I didn't check sizes. I'm not in the market so I didn't take the best look. Maybe it was $1699...

Should also be noted that right now is a major *October* sale, so I don't know if that's a permanent markdown on last years frames.

Abolsutely delicious is all I have to say about mine.

She rides like a champ. I've only had a few very minor issues... but nothing major.

The stock headset and the cassette are crap-tastic, but other than that.. it's been a beut.

I don't know how because employee costs are near 3000. Wholesale is much more, how can shops be selling them for less than they paid? I have one I have ridden twice that I have to sell and I wont sell it for less than 3800. It's a medium by the way

Franklin Street Cycles in Chapel Hill NC has a pro and a dh. I believe the prices are 2700 for the pro, 3300 for dh. Phone number is 919-929-0213. It's my LBS and is a great shop.

You have got that backwards, the pro is more expensive in 2005. That is sad that he is taking a loss on that bike if he bought it in the beginning of the year:( not very good for Specialized-seems like everybody is taking losses on that bike.

sorry but you are wrong, the demo 9 pro is the less expensive of the two. The Pro comes with front shifter, derailer, cheap pedals, and the 888RR witch has no compression adjustment and swinger 4 way rear. The DH has the 888r, blackspire chain guide, and the new specialized pedals and the swinger 6way which in my opinion is overkill anyway. The money you save buing the Pro you can get a chain guide and a better headset cause they both come with that cheapo hs

They only way a bike shop is taking a loss is if they had the bike sitting all season. Specialized is blowing them out so the lbs is getting them at a low price and still making money at $2700 and $3300

The 2004 pro is the lesser of the two, you are correct, but the 2005 line says the pro is the top of the line now. Sorry for the confusion.
