grilled up this baby two weekends ago for mother's day. almost 2 lb of T-Bone, plenty for the whole family. butcher boy is a great shop to have near-by.

made some asian slaw and roasted veggies to go w/ it, and decanted a '97 Estancia Meritage which was outstanding.

i haven't had steak since i started eating meat again. wouldn't mind trying a bite but it seems that red meat may never agree with me again. :(

my roomie left his meat thawing in our fridge for a week. He then proceeded to cook it and leave it out for a day. we now have a fly infestation problem...

but, yum.

I had a 20 oz dry aged sirloin from the capital grille in boston last night. Absolutely tremendous.

cap grille has good steaks, but it's spendy. grille 23's nice too but both those places are better when someone else is paying (esp if you are ordering wine).

gnurider, i've had plenty of filets from BB. their marinated steak tips are great too. the bone-in sirloin is outrageously good. hell, all their stuff rocks.

definately true. ive never really been disappointed with any meat from that place. although you gotta watch out at the meat counter. that curved glass window makes your depth perception all wierd. i almost smacked my face on it leaning in too close the last time i was there.

This is true. We had a $100 gift card and it barely covered the food. Have you ever been to abe & louies?

never been to abe and louie's. other big steak houses i've been to are Morton's, and Smith and Wollensky's (the one in philly). S&W wasn't that great, Morton's was. given the choice (and same budget), though, i'd rather go to a non-steak house than a steak house.

There's nothing better than a nice juicy steak after a race or some shuttle runs with your friends. It's about the only time you can pig out and not feel too guilty about doing so...

NORCAL is the hizzle
This last weekend I did a long road ride and then later that day planned another long ride (mtb) for the next day. I was pretty sore and not sure how the second ride was gonna go. When I showed up at my friend's place, his wife asked innocently "How does steak and some beers sound for later?" Well, let's just say I found plenty of motivation to rock it out on the trail. Five hours later we rolled back to a huge pile of food, including steaks on the grill and many beers on ice....damn what a great day... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Had a killer grilled NY steak last night, properly charred on the outside and rosy on the inside, with corn on the cob, baked potatoes and lots of butter, sour cream, and horseradish. Classic post-ride grub down. Margs on the rocks to start, washed down the steaks with a cotes-du-rhone that was perfect - not too heavy but more than a match for the beef. Damn it was gooooooood.....

What was the Cotes-du-Rhone? Was it a Guigal? Details, man, details!

guigal's a solid wine, and a steal at ~10 per bottle. but i haven't really been able to find a good solid contender in the Cote-du-Rhones in the ~20 range from France. end up usually going Aussie. although i have had a couple of JL Chave bottles which were awesome, but can't find 'em much around anymore.

$10/bottle. Yup. That's about my limit. :p

Elk is great. the only time i've had it is @ the Wynkoop in Denver. Caribou is tasty too.

Ditto to the above, but the best tasting game animal I've eaten was Oryx.

My dad drew a permit and shot one in southern NM several years ago and that was some of THE BEST tasting meat ever!

Not Guigal, but can't remember right now. It was about $15 at a decent wine shop. More on the elegant, lighter side - perfect for quaffing with the grill fare. I don't drink a lot of french wine ('cuz it's really expensive compared to a lot of other good stuff available here in Norcal) but I love Rhone reds and Loire whites.

Must be nice. Here the French wines are the good, cheap choice. I mean, next to Italian, Aussie, and Spanish.

Oh, and Chilean and Argentinian. :p
