I think they just got their approval to run some XC and Super D races...

Snow Summit is sticking to their guns, in terms of what type of bike they will load on their lifts.

Less than 35 pounds
Triple chainring
Tires no larger than 2.1
No more than 5" of travel, front and rear

Basically, bikes that you really couldn't have too much fun on up there, unless you wanted to climb the fire road... :mumble:

it's 35lbs limit
3 chain rings or single speed
6 inches up front (150mm)
nothing fatter then 2.5" tire

It's $10 per run or get the all day pass (till 4pm) for $20 (yes they brought it back from the grave). No runs allowed on the ski slopes but many single tracks branching from the fire roads above. Last weekend when we were racing SuperD I saw a bunch of guys riding down all day long. Some with full gear but the bike were in the rules.

Well it's better than nothing I suppose, get ready to break out the trail bikes...sigh...

What are you talking about? Are you suggesting you are willing to pay snow summit so you can ride trails that aren't even as fun as the ones you'd find right outside your own city limits that cost nothing to ride? When will people realize that supporting SS at this point, on any bike, is giving SS the message that we are totally helpless lemmings who will do anything to ride on their yuppie hill.

I say let Snow Summit die to the mountain biking world and Team Big Bear too.

I was going to keep my mouth shut on this for once, but I guess I can be incited to at least agree with Korn and Fonzie here.

That said, might be worth one summer trip up there...just not going to give Snow Summit any money to ride their lift to public trails.

Exactly. Untill SS realizes that they need us more than we need them they will never ever maintain, or create decent trails. Unless SS creates new trails that are cut properly and maintained I will never go back there. I urge all of you to boycott them as well. Use the power of your wallet to send them a message. Tell them that we do not need them, and that if they want our business then they have to earn it.

I will be shuttling better trails this summer then SS ever offered. And when I am not shuttling I will be pedalling and pushing up the hill. At the very least, it's good for my heart, and will help burn off this fat ass. Eff snow summit and team big bear.

It's not so much bustin' Pat and Tom's balls...I mean I will still be racing Brian Head and Deer Valley. It it's about showing Snow Summit that they can't close the DH trails and deny lift-assisted DH riding and still have us crawl back to them on our trail bikes and ask to be loaded on their chair (what "K" said). If I go to Big bear I will not be supporting S.S, instead I would rather pedal to the top.

I guess Big Bear's Summer economy is taking a hit already huh? Sucks for everybody. :(

That would be sweet. Lets form a big goup and go up there and just push up all day and bomb back down. We can give SS the finger on the way by. Then we can go shuttle some of the other trails in the area.

SS really won't be able to see us do that, as all the singletracks are kinda far from the lifts...I guess there's Fall Line, though. Hmmm. I dunno. Doesn't seem worth it.

Don't even ride in Big Bear at all, or even visit it. The economic impact is our leverage on Snow Summit. Put no money into the economy at all and watch the pressure grow.

eff that place, in fact, i won't go there in the winter either. there are other places to spend your hard earned money. they won't get a dime out of my pocket. this isn't cruel. what's cruel is denying us the ability to DH there. i hope the entire place goes out of business. I will always feel terrible for the guy that got hurt, but all of us take the risk whenever we saddle up on our rigs.

N*, downieville, mammoth, etc will get my hard earned dollars, period.

I agree with you guys but I never spend over 30 bucks a day up there. 20 for lift and around 10 for lunch. I don't think loosing my 30 bones will put anyone out of biz.
It's not about your 30 bucks, it's about the $30 of 200 local mountain bikers who visit 3 weekends a month from june to september that will put people out of business. If they're not willing to fight for our business they don't deserve our money. I'd rather spend one weekend a month maintianing a local trail that I could ride for free every other weekend than pay to ride a trail that is never maintained, and on a bike that's not fun to ride to add insult. Spend that $30 on new brake pads or more beer if you feel like you've got to spend money to have a good time ridding.

i still dont understand why they shutdown the DH section, i understand the guy got injured and sued, but why dont they just fix whatever the guy sued for, put up disclaimers that you have to sign, and then the problem would be fixed right? or is there something im missing?

what you are missing is they don't want to get sued again. The disclaimers and you signing them were already there. They guy who sued signed on too. Shows what that's worth, nothing! They just don't make enough in the summer with biking to be worth the risk (or so they say). In the winter I guess they make enough cash to take the risk of a law suite.

Trust me, I'm just as bummed or more then anyone else.

Ya big meanie. Be nice! :D

The situation at SS runs deeper than most of us know. It goes beyond rider lawsuits.

Edit: I wonder if any of the SS or TBB guys read our posts about them.

OK, then: run a search!

Actually, though, yeehaa, there are several threads from way back over the winter that will give you lots of background info on the situation and pages on endless pages of speculation.

The *main* reason they closed Dh was, in fact, the potential for more lawsuits. To summarize, those releases and waivers you sign when you go DHing at a ski place don't mean a thing in court. The racer who sued signed two of them, I think (one for Snow Summit, one for TBB) like all of us who rode there.

In this country, as a venue, you can't really sign your potenital liability away. Yeah, I know, it's common sense that you're participating in a dangerous sport willingly and all bets should be off, but that reasonable person standard doesn't apply here. The racer who sued claimed that the course markers used in race were unsuitably designed and were essentially the cause of his injury.

As a reasonable person, I understand that he had an opportunity to inspect the course prior to racing and should have done so...and if he had an issue with the course markers, shouldn't have raced and perhaps demanded his registration money back.

But no one asked me...they just closed the mountian.

While it sucks for the industry and all you so cal folks, I'm glad SS is done. Hopefully, NORBA or whoever will find another mountain (my vote is for N*) that has better terrain. I did not like riding SS too much, not enough rocks, too much dust, less than a handful of "trails", mostly fire roads with small jumps. I support this boycott of SS fully. Let's go pedal up to some killer trails, and leave this SS sillyness to the winter time sports to deal with.

I know that's supposed to be funny...but...um...it's just a dumb thing to say.

So are they supposed to run their mountain for charity? As a commune? If you've got a plan for a sustainable rider-run cooperative bike resort, by all means, put it forward.

Is their 'greed' somehow manifest in denying themselves a potential source of income, or protecting themselves against potentially devastating financial loss?

I think they're missing out on the chance to *make* tons of money by running a kickass bike park, personally. And my perspective is obviously skewed by my desire for them to do just that, so they can take that for what it's worth...wishful thinking by a non-businessman. But I will refer you to the South Park "Harbuck's" and "Wall*Mart" episodes for a good perspective on corporations.

And it's "corporate." Never misspell when you call someone a moron.

Sorry, but using 'corporate' as a pejorative is just a little bit tiresome.
