Unridable....in the sense that it is not the trail it used to be. From what I was told, what is left up at Anderson doesn't even resemble the old trail and has been so poorly reruited and ruted that it is for all purposes unridable. No flow, no speed, no fun. However, my informer did mention that Wold cup might be saved.
I've never even ridden there and now I probly never will get to, so it really bums me out to here stuff like that. It's a real shame.
I've ridden the "whole" thing a few times after the fires and rains. World Cup is still pretty good, but like you said, could use some work. Eco Challenge needs a lot of work, but is rideable. The last half of the trail after 4corners is still fun, a little slower, but overall good. I personally would ride there anytime, if I still lived in SD I'd be putting that place back together again. After all, there aren't many places like that for DHing, so it's better than nothing.
Jsigone, I believe the USFS still sells really nice toppo maps that have most of the trails. Try a forrest ranger's office, it seems like a single map costs $15 or so, they're a little pricy but if you plan on hiking or biking much in the area they are the best maps to have.
The most convenient forrest ranger's station if you're heading to noble is in Alpine on Alpine Blvd, from the 8 east exit tavern rd and turn left onto Alpine Blvd, it's quite a ways past the small downtown area on the left hand side, if you reach the willows rd on ramp you've gone too far.
Korn, thanks got your PM.
I'll play it by ear cuz we might end up at the Del Mar County Fair. Word 'round the campfire is Josh Bender will be signing autographs after he flat lands a drop from a hot air balloon.
Can you shoot me your number at orven@lightfootpg.com, just in case I wake up early on Saturdee.
I'm the puss who thinks Anderson kinda sucks now (the source of Lovebunny's report) ...but that's just me.
One one hand, it was just sad to see what was fast and flowy become all chunky and slow, and on the other, it just reminded me of skiing on crappy icy snow. It's hard, for sure, but that doesn't make it any fun.
But I'm a spoiled brat, not a real mountain biker anyhow, I guess.
According to the USFS's CNF website Anderson Truck Trail (the dirt road) is still closed to motor vehicles, except residents. It is not closed to non motorized vehicles.
Be advised that the USFS know about and read these forums.
I'm up for a ride but no Anderson that place is dead....why would I want to ride a trail that was all blown out and rutted?.... any trail is rideable....the difference is would you enjoy riding it!....D
