Hadley: 135x10mm TA vs. 135x10mm Ti-bolt

I've asked about this at my home forum (farkin.net - thanks guys) but not enough people have tried this fancy new stuff here in Australia to be able to answer my question conclusively.

I was hoping I might find some answers here.

I am after a new hub for the rear of my DH bike and it's down to these two hadley hubs. In 108pt form of course.

135x10mm Through-Axle
135x10mm Ti-bolt (costs us$20 more)

Which of these is lighter? I'd be stoked if someone had the exact weight on both hubs including hardware. But it'd be good enough for me to just hear which is lighter, if someone knows for sure.

I'm pretty sure the TA hub comes with a 10mm bolt-up skewer, is this aluminium or steel?

Also - are there any benefits to the Ti-bolt setup over the TA setup, because i'm really not seeing any - would it be stiffer at all?

Any info much appreciated,

the 10mm bolt through i beleive is lighter. i have the Ti bolt one, the axle they bolt into is BURLY. the weight saving has got to be llike 30grams or so. its not that much. i would say Ti all the way. it ain't ever moving with that one. and its a bolt on either side, while the 10mm thru is like a long bolt with a bolt on one side.
just call Hadley and ask, pretty sure they would tell you about the same thing. the company is very upfront with things

Ironically I just ordered the Ti Bolt conversion kit.

I have this 135 x 12mm hub at home, but recently got a bike that need a 10mm thru axle. Called Suzanne at Hadley, which was extremely helpful as always, and ordered the conversion kit.

Should be getting it any day now!

I would be very surprised if there is any real weight difference between the two. The thru bolt is aluminum with an aluminum nut that can lock into the dropout so you do not need a tool on one side. The bolt on Ti set up is just that, Two 10 mm Ti allen head cap screws that thread into the hub axle. The only difference in the hub is the end caps, esentially wether they are threaded or not. fwiw the guys at hadley told me that the ti bolt on is a little stiffer set up. Mine works awesome.

yea the Ti interface is wayy stiffer. but after looking at them i'd almost say the Ti is lighter.

I got the 10x135/108pt ti bolt set up on the way as well, looking forward to checking it out, I went with it based on suzanne's info, and from the sound of it, sounds like a really sweet set up.

I'll post some pictures before I build the wheels.

i'm a MAsshole!!!
i jsut order a hadley with 1omm ti last week. a blue anodized one with 108 pt freehub. going on my bighit. when i called hadley, they explained the difference between the 10 alu and 10ti bolts. the ti is supposedly much burlier. make sure you order it with the 108 pt cause apparently if you don't they ship with th standard 36.

the wheel: hadley 10mm ti 108 pt engangement 36h, dt swiss silver spokes 14g cause they don't have 224's in alpine III's  and arrow dhx 24" 36h.
hopefully will have the wheel built up by monday as it's my last free day befoer i go off for riding at attitash for the 21st -23rd. hopefully all the stuff will come in before monday.

Same case for me, blue/108 on bighit.

Okay so from what you guys have said - the Ti setup is burlier/stiffer, supposedly. I'm curious though as to whether the axle is hollow all the way through on both hubs, or only hollow on the 10mm TA hub.

DHS - I'd be stoked if you could post a pic of both for me, and as above i'm wondering if there is a "stop" at the end of the threads in the Ti-Bolt hub, or if its still hollow all the way through.

If anyone of you could find out from hadley which is actually lighter out of the 10mm TA and 10mm Ti-Bolt, i'd be stoked! I can't really ring in since from australia the call will probably cost a billion dollars.

Thanks very much again!

As I said in my earlier post, the only difference is the hub axle end caps! I have converted one to the other and vice versa, everything else is the same. That being said, the hubs weigh the exact same within spec tolerance. The only difference is in the axle, a 10mm by ~175mm aluminum axle(bolt) weighs about 37 grams. The two ti bolts, each 10mm by ~35mm weigh about 25 grams. This is a rough estimate, but the difference (10 grams ~ the weight of the lube on your chain) is so little that if you are concerned about this you should be buying a different hub.

so, the ti bolt kit is definitely stiffer than the TA? in practice or in theory?

i'm on the verge of ordering a set of blue Hadleys as well. was set to order the 10mm TA, but saw this thread. i had no idea there was a ti bolt setup...how did you guys find out? any idea what the upcharge is from the 10mm TA for us in the States?

my hub may be one of the ealier bolt on, but my ti bolt set up has a solid alloy axle with ti bolts, not just interchangable endcaps(maybe this is newer than mine) i have both styles of axle on two different wheels, the ti setup definately feels stiffer to me(might just be that i have more confidence in the ti threads versus alloy threads) i am scared to tighten the 10mm alloy to much for fear of breaking the axle(has happened before).
my 2 cents

Simple... Hadley does not have a website...Sad but true

By the way Ben at unrealcycles.com has the 108pt Hadley Ti Bolt rear hubs for $280. Ask nice and I bet he will included shipping.

Does anyone know where I can get the wrenches for a rear Hadley hub? The only place I have found is Balle Racing but they are out of stock.

Just wanted to update this thread - my hadley arrived today.

I got the Ti-Bolt version in blue. Balle Racing did me an excellent price (a fair bit better than Unreal's 280, which they didn't want to move on), and also included the 12mm adaptors in case I needed them later.

The Ti-Bolt system looks amazing in the flesh, and I think you really have to see it to appreciate it.

The Ti-Bolt hub, complete with the bolts and all hardware - weighs a modest 435g on my scales, if anyone is curious. The 10mm TA version claims to weigh 440g with skewer/axle, so I was pleasantly surprised.

The 108pt engagement feels brilliant in hand, and the bearings are smoother than silk. Can't afford to lace it up just yet but hopefully in a few weeks.

If anyone wants pics just ask, i'll snap some in the next couple days.
A big thumbs up for Balle Racing again - couldn't have been happier with Erik's service.
