so i finally found a friend who has offered to sell me his marzocchi 888 rc for $400...was wondering if thas a good deal? Now that i have the offer, im kinda having second thoughts on replacing the old fork. I currently have a 2003 dorado on my tomac and wasn't sure which fork would be better suited for my bike(i do mostly freeriding)? anyone have sugggestions on if i should replace it or not?

what year is it, and you do know it it a very tall fork right? why is he selling it, 400 seems low to me for a RC, what kind of condition is it in? if its in good condition id go for it

i dont like the 888 due to the hight (even with drop crowns) but im retiring the dorado because as ive gotten faster and more agressive i just cant deal w/ the flex anymore...some guys like slack geo..i dont.. if u do its probally not a bad idea

Dude don't sell that fork your 03 dorado was the best year it is also the best fork out on the market so many of the downhillers i know would kill to have that fork your fork makes the 888 look like a toy

woops correction: my friend got mixed up...the fork is a 2004 marzocchi 888r. he says it has a few small scratches on the stanction but will sand the scratches down. anyone think its still worth $400 or is it a no go?

what tomac is it? coz the dh frame is designed around a dorado fork, so the 888 may screw up the geometry. but IMO the dorado is a better fork then the 888r, and if you are really do huge stuff, you can get the compression bumped up by manitou.

With the drop crowns, they are very reasonable heights. Same ball parks as most any other DH fork

it wont hurt it if the scratches arent too deep but if there real deep you have to replace the stanchions. so a little sanding wont hurt it very much. if there black nitride stanchions like the 888 then you wont have the black on them any more but other than that no big deal.

ohh and i would keep the dorado more tuning options and a much better fork.

wow this thread got really off topic.

okay to clearify things. dj1-3 is a dirtjumping fork. hince the name dirt jumper. okay if it was a dh fork it would be called downhilling fork okay. there problem solved. i dont care how specialized specs there low end big hits its not a dh fork. its stiff and heavy which is perfect for dirt jumping hince the name again. also the dirt jumper wasnt a fork that came up in the original discussion.

okay and im still stincking with what i said earlier. get the dorado over the 888. yeh the dorado isnt the greatest freeride huck fork, but when you start picking up speed you will appreciate haveing the dorado over the low end 888. ohh and you still have the big names that huck a dorado. thats my vote and lets get off this dirt jumper subject.

except its a used 888 r and it has scratched stanchions. i wouldnt buy it for more than 400. although it is an 888, but its only the r and it retails for about 900 or so. 400 is a good price but id still get the dorado.

NO it's not you goon. A Big(s)hit is a freeride bike- it has a 24" wheel ffs...

The 06 could be good...
I'm sorry Mr. new FREERIDE not DOWNHILL my bad, and I ride jest fine at north star, wich is the place that would be worst for a 24 inch wheel.

Wow, you win the I-believe-marketing-but-never-actually-ride-a-bike award. 24" wheel or not, the bighit definitely falls into BOTH niches. Apparently, bicycles can be ridden in more ways than one. Who knew?

And no need for the insults. Take it elsewhere if you can't be civil.
