Dirt mag did a review of brakes last month........XTR/Saint were their top choice.

I'm saving my pennies for Saints next year. Sick of dealing with the "G2 syndrome" in the new hayes.....

I've run Saints for two years with good results. The only brake I have tried that is better is the Magura Gustav. Very powerful, they take a light touch, more powerful than the Saints with great modulation. I've been fighting the GAS that is pushing me to get a set.

I've had various sets of hayes brakes for the last 6 years and still have them on my dh and dirtjump bikes. They will not die.

But......I got a set of xtr brakes that came on my 03 enduro and I saw the light. I got a set of xts for another bike I built up because they really are the best overall feeling disc brake I've ever ridden. I've had a little time on pretty much everything out there right now. I'm going to be putting shimanos on all my bikes eventually.

Not only do they have all the locking power you could want, there really is true modulation in them. You can go from lightly dragging to full lock with one finger with very little effort.

And brian.........they work way better than your hopes. I've ridden your bike.

edit: all shimanos are compatible except for xtr. They have different hose fitting attachments.

Yeah seriously, if weight and cost are not an issue, there is nothing better than the gustavs. I can't say I've ridden everything out there, but I've ridden a lot, and the power and control of the gustavs blew me away when I tried my buddy's earlier this year. They are heavy and kind of expensive (I think) but pretty friggin' awesome.

How do the Deore hydros stack up to the XT/Saints?
Not really in the same league but very good for the money if you're not wanting to spend alot to get into hydro brakes. XT/Saint are going to be shimano's higher end of their brake line as Deore's are going to be the lowest end of their hydro line. But none the less they'll work fine.

i own hopes mono 6 and 4 and i really like them they have real good feel and mix of modulation and power but they dont have the crazy lock up like the original xt's or saints.

if you like a fast lock up go for the saint cause of the insane power
if you like nice modulation and the easiest bleeding brake go with hope

I've never tried the saints but I can tell you that the XT 4 piston brakes with Goodridge hoses are absolutely awsome. Great power and modulation and are very easy to bleed.

Um no, completely wrong. 100% wrong.

I am using the same regular old hadley hubs I was using with hayes.
Oh Im sorry, I really though you had to use shimano rotors. I had know idea you could use other rotors.

you can use any rotors you want..but what is stopping you from using shimano 6 bolt rotors? Is there some law in your area I am not aware of?

He's kinda young and inexperienced. I think he just didn't know that the only compatability issue is the size. (As in rotor size and adapter size)

Exactly.....I didn't know that they made a 6 hole rotor. I thought they only made rotors for their hubs.

You can actually use pretty much any rotor as long as you have the correct adapter for the size rotor you have. For example I am running Shimano XT calipers with 8" Hayes rotors. As long as I have the 8 inch adapters for the calipers I should be OK. So you can run Saint calipers with any rotor/hub combo as long as you have the right adapter. :thumb:

Saint brakes rule! Excellent modulation and stopping power. Transcend is right - if you run one of each pad compound (both come with the brakes) it is the best feeling ever! The mono-body caliper means no power lost under extreme braking conditions.

As for XTR Brakes - you can run the calipers with any lever. It is the XTR Dual Control levers that require the banjo bolts a la 4-piston XT brake.

As for the person that said the brakes suck because the levers don't come with - that is a good thing! If you want to run Saint calipers with XT levers, LX or even Deore you can. I don't see how that sucks?

Saints for me too. Tried the Juicys, they didn't take. The popout blade is just plain annoying. Saints are just so simple, all the complex stuff is hidden away, which may mean if something breaks you will need a whole mc or caliper- but it also means that it is sealed better and less likley to be ruined by less knowledgable wrenching.

Oh- and, if you thought the saint lever feel was light? Try some redline 0 weight fork fluid. LUSH!

?

What is meant by running one of each pad? Like you have two seperate pads in a single caliper? or have the softer pad in the front brake and the harder pad in the rear?
