My limited experience with Saint brakes has been good, however anyone who has problems with any brakes other than Hopes not having enough power should look at their setup before scrapping the brakes and getting something else. Hayes, Avid, Shimano etc can ALL be made to have a turdload of grab, power and at worst a decent lever feel. Avids have the nicest shaped lever and with a good bleed are reasonably firm, Hayes are easy to get a firm feel out of although the lever shape isn't phantastic, and Shimano have a decent lever shape and probably the nicest feel of the lot.

One last thing: anyone who has trouble "modulating" any kind of brakes other than HS33s with a trials setup, is a retard. If your wheel is locking up, don't squeeze so hard. It's not rocket science. Some brakes are touchier than others (due mainly to pad compound and interface cleanliness in my experience) but having ridden brakes that can violently lock the front wheel on asphalt and not having had any trouble whatsoever controlling them when actually riding, I feel I can safely say that "modulation" is a non-issue. Unless you like to grab your brakes halfway round an off-camber corner or something, in which case you deserved it.

i agree, this kid just does not know when to stop, stop bringing this thread back to the first page for no reason let it go. Oh by the way how come you always have to fight and argue with someone. i don't know if you notice this DH SB man, but it is usually you who brings up and gives someone a hard time and starts these childish aguments, i am amazed that you have not been kicked out by the ridemonkey guys yet. This must be at least the 20th time people have got mad at you, and you just don't stop. It is now at the point that i am going to block you so I don't have to read your post with your stupid fights, and stupid put downs of other members.

zmtber, there's a little button in the upper right corner of your post that says "edit", so you can change your original post instead of posting three. I don't care if you save time, it keeps the threads less cluttered.

And my thoughts on the original question: The Saints apparently are amazing brakes, but you might not need to pay that much for new stuff. My guess is that your Hayes are still in good condition and they'll last for some time. I would save a few hundred $$ and stick with the Hayes.

Well, and what is your experience with line swelling and expansion with shimano stock lines?

I,ve got my saints last week, and i must say, that when i press the leaver all the way..it has a fair amount of travel from the point where the brakes block the wheel, to the point where the lever stops. During this process you can see a fair amount of line swelling and expansion in the form, were you can see that the hose moves for about one third of an inch! And the lever feels like gum... I hope you understand...

I didnt try to bleed the brakes myself, i probably will(they were bled in the shop)

I think that the bleeding will solve my problem, but am amazed with how much the lines expand and swell!

Any thougts??

Thanx!

Put lever at 90*
Remove top cap.
Squeeze lever repeatedly
Watch bubbles come to the surface. :clue:

Laaz, there is no way that you are watching your line 'expand' by 1/3 of an inch, unless you have a kink in your line/soft spot where there has been impact, then the line would bubble in that one area.

As for mushy lines, in all my years as a race mechanic it is probably due to either 1) Air in the line, 2) Using a generic mineral oil from a pharmacy (Shimano's oil is specially made by Shell Corp.), or 3) There is water in the system. #3 is a little less likely, but when you use generic mineral oil it is more likely as they are hypoporous.
