I was earching for some good cover versions of songs the other day. Any suggestions? I found a 1986 Van Hagar cover of Zeppelin's Rock and Roll.... I found both Cake and the Cure doing covers of Creep (radiohead)...a bunch of Dust my Broom and Stones in my Passway..

Any good ones out there I should seek out?

(I also found Ice Ice Baby, but overlaid onto the music for the Real Slim Shady......and my bro once found the Real Slim Shady overlaid onto Oops! I Did it Again)

Korn does an awesome cover of Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall"
Pearl jam has some good covers, can't think of specifics at the moment.
I don't really like Marilyn Manson, but some of his covers are decent.

I'll try to think of more...

Great Pearl Jam covers:
Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding)
Baba O'Riley (The Who)
Anything of The Doors they covered - they were all from one performance (I think it was in L.A.)

Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of "Little Wing" is one of the best musical pieces you'll ever hear, anywhere

I really like Uncle Cracker's cover of "Drift Away"

Hendirix covering "All Along the Watchtower"

If you like jazz, I love John Coltrane's cover of "My Favorite Things"

Paul Anka did a cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," in Swing rock.

He also has a kickass cover of Soundgardens "Rusty Cage"

Just about anything by Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies is good. (They have a handfull of albums out, all cover tunes.)

A band called Throwdown does a good cover of "Baby Got Back"

I believe it's Pennywise that does a cover of "Down Under"

Less Than Jake has some good covers out there, too.

Do you have some time? Here's a quick list from my "Various Covers" folder of MP3's. I have a ton more but I don't know all the artists doing the covers (many are listed as "punk cover". Thank you NAPSTER) There's a million covers out there. I'm sure Narlus can put up a good list.

7 Seconds - These boots were made for walking
Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal
Andy Kaufman (as Tony Clifton) - I will Survive.
Ben Folds Five - Vaseline (Flaming Lips cover)
Dash Rip Rock - Let's Go Smoke Some pot (OK... it's not so much a cover as it is a filke)
Devo - Head Like A Hole
Incubuc - Turning Japanese
Lemonheads - Skulls
Mojo Nixon - Girlfriend in a Coma - Great cover!
Orgy - Blue Moday
SkaDaddyz - Hotel California
Gypsi Kings - Hotel California
The Breeders - Happiness Is A Warm Gun
I have a GREAT cover of Walking On Sunshine (by Katrina and the Waves) but I don't know who is doing it
The Cramps - Route 66, Shortnin Bread, Peter Gunn
Tom Jones - Kiss
Flogging Molly - Delilah (Effin AWSOME)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Love Rollercoaster
Robyn Hitchcock - Waterloo Sunset
Screeching Weasel - You Are My Sunshine
Stanford Mixed Company - Come On Eileen (Great cover! Acapella)
Tori Amos - Love Song
Tori Amos - Angie
Husker Du - Love Is All Around (Mary Tyler Moore theme)
Prince - Honkey Tonk Woman
Ween - Hot For Teacher

Tangled Up in Blue - Indigo Girls (Bob Dylan)
Midnight Train to Georgia - Indigo Girls (James D. Wheatherly)
32 Flavors - Alana Davis (Ani DiFranco)

and not really a cover because I don't know if you can "cover" standard x-mas carols but God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by the Barenaked Ladie and Sarah McLachlan is my favorite x-mas song now!

Deftones covered "I'm losing my Favorite Game" by the Cardigans.

It was the first song that popped into my head when I read your post. It may be next to impossible to find.

I think you have that backwards, that would be Soundgarden did a good job of covering Johnny Cash's "Rusty Cage".

I have a slew of great punk bands doing covers of Rap, Country, Pop, and Rock songs.

Rage Against the Machine covers both Cypress Hill's "How I could Just Kill a Man" and NWA's "F*ck the Police." I think they did a pretty good job.
I love Housing, one of my favorite covers and better than the EPMD version. And Sublime's version of the Bad Religion, "We're only going to die...." is great too.

Hey, I just saw them play that at the Fillmore last night!! Fun show. :thumb:

I also like the Wall of Voodoo version of the same song.

And let's not forget Devo's version of "Satisfaction."

"I can't getmeno...satisfaction. No I can't getmeno..."

Check out this group called Nouvelle Vague. Their cover of the Dead Kennedys' "Too Drunk to F*ck" is pretty good and the woman who's singing sounds like she's totally plastered out of her mind. It's awesome.

Not sure if you're serious or not, but the song was written by Soundgarden originally.

That said, Cash does a way better job with it.
I feel like an ass, I always thought it was the other way around. My bad.
