Usually about 74 or 75F, but we have the AC turned off for the winter.
64 during the day when we're not home, 68 at night. I like it toasty.

We just moved into our new condo and we have to pay for heat now so the thermostat is set at 65. We turn it down to 62 when we are asleep.
The affect of the thermostat setting greatly depends on your system. On some systems, it cost more to maintain a house at 68 Deg. F. the others.

we keep ours turned off. i turn it on every now and then to get the chill out of the air, but most of the time its about 60 degrees. we keep it completely turned off at night. the other morning i woke up and the thermostat said it was below 50 in the house. our heat went up 75% from last year. i have a friend in a duplex with a 450 dollar heating bill and i just can't afford that, its almost rent.
we wear lots of clothes, and have 300 blankets on the bed. i'm just glad winter doesn't last very long around here.

Ideally, I would have it 80 degrees in the house all the time...I love to be warm! My theory is, I should be able to walk around in cheering shorts and a tanktop in the house and be comfortable.
When I lived in NH I always cranked the heat up, but now that I am in NC, it's much easier not to, since it isn't 10 degrees outside every day.

Thermostat is set at 63 or so all the time. I like it cold when I sleep so heat has been shut off to the three bedrooms. I actually only heat about a 800ft of the house

while I'm awake 70-72 but I dont think our thermometer is right.
At night it gets turned off, set to 50. If it gets 50 then it can come on No point though in having it turn on when you're in bed under the blankets.

Well, our house is huge so we generally close the vents to all of the rooms we don't use and keep the blinds drawn and doors closed. We also have a timer on our thermostat.

I do not use one as we heat the digs with a woodstove...
We have a programmable as well. It's set to 67 during the day (6:30am-9:30pm) and 59 at night.

Buy an electric blanket. Our has paid itself off in less than a month, and it's really nice to have. Like getting into a dry hot tub...
Or get a nice down comforter. I'm pretty sure we could set the house at 50 at night with ours.Silver said:

I just turned the AC off today because the temperature dropped low enough to open the windows. In fact I am going to sleep with the windows open tonight.
By the weekend the weather forecast is saying we will probably have to turn the AC back on which is programmed for 74-77 degrees depending on the time of day.

At school I live in a three level house with an appartment for 4 people on each of the first two levels and a single on the third. We are having a bit of a heat war with the kids below us. One morning I woke up and my room was 77 degrees with 67 % humidity and I was already sick and pissed off but that did it. They had the thermostat set on 84 freakin degrees. So I turned it down to 70, which seemed like more then a reasonable temp considering this house is poorly insulated, lacks many storms, and is just cold usually. Then today I noticed it was set on 81, I'll try it at 74 to see if they don't notice. Its like if I open my heat vent its at least 75 degrees in my room and if I close it I don't get any heat and it gets a little cool and drafty. Not to mention they like terrible music and feel free to blast it at glass rattling decibles...Too bad they often park their car right in the middle of the driveway (blocking entry to the parking lot) which happens to be just in urination distance from our second floor balcany...There was a rant I didn't expect
I live in So Cal, so I haven't had to kick the heater on, yet. In the summer, I leave it between 65-70. I don't use the heat much in the winter; although, if I need to run it at night, I'll set it at like 75 and run it for like half an hour to an hour.
I turn it off and keep the window open, then my Hawaiian roommate turns it up to 80.

If off were an option, it'd be there, but it's slammed down to 50 all the time. I have sweatshirts and blankets for a reason.

The factory floor at the place I used to work made very precise machinery and the temperature in the two manufacturing bays was extremely important. There were temp sensors all over the place, if any one of them was off by the set temp more than 2 degrees production would have to shut down for 24 hours.
