I can't confess to being as universally tolerant politically as lucky13 (aka Joel) because I like to keep things black and white, and stay away from a million shades of gray. So I lean right. Not fire-bomb abortion clinics or hatchet heads in gay bars fanatical right, but right none-the-less.

Regarding the bike comments:
What I don't get is why on a bike riding forum some folks are so opinionated about who rides what bike. As far as I'm concerned, you can ride a pink huffy with spinners and pom poms down A-line for all I care. If it's got wheels and it's man-powered, then you go boy!

I ride my 45lb+ V-tach to work on the Birke Gilman occasionally with full-on baggy gear and my co-workers on their road bikes just slow down and shoot the breeze with me, since I can't push the darn thing over 14mph. No attitudes or opinions, just a couple guys riding bikes.

Ride whatever makes you feel good. (...pun intended :sneaky: )

lol,. an OTNer huh.

You of all people would understand then what it means to stay on the narrow path (pun intended).

As for being angry, I'm not really. I was embarassed to have invited family friends to that event and just wanted to know why THAT music was picked out of ANY other acceptable form.

As for defending myself, yea, it comes off as angry, but it isn't. Being passionate means I'm not going to sway at idle threats.

There was a better way to handle this and I didn't. Sorry. Thanks for pointing that out.

LOL lucky 13, you talk about narrow minded, YOU are the one that is narrow mined enough to post how you hate a certain type of music and how mnt bikes have to have gears and brakes to be "legit".

Its funny that you would be ok with a punk band playing with your familiy there but metal is just to offensive for you. Your opinion might matter but sorry you dont get to decide what bands play at the gathering or not.

Why are you so angry anyway, you dont sound like a person that wants to become a pastor.

Intresting that this whole thread turned from "Who invited the lame Metal bands" to "Lucky13 is Narrow Minded"...

I like Metal and I'm a friend of Lucky13's... that must mean I'm fairly tolerant of other peoples views...

either that or I just didn't hear the Metal played at the Gathering...

guys guys guys

the event was about little kids, not riding. So please cover up your tattoos, watch your language, brush your teeth, comb your hair, wear helmets, shave, wear a nice pair of fitting jeans and a polo shirt and thank jesus if you win.

p.s. Zao hardly constitutes a metal experience. Dead end? How bout clueless?

I didn't go sat., just friday, and i would have to say that the bands were not good. that wouldn't however make me not want to bring my two little boys. there was no profanity, rude drunk people, or flagrant lewdness that made me feel uncomfortable, and the only reason i didn't bring them was because of logistics. i also can't blame the evils of this world on metal. unless that band dropped huge screaming f-bombs , do you really think that it was harmful or embarrasing to those children? or did it just make you uncomfortable because you don't like metal. don't try to form a protective bubble around children to keep the world out, it will only hurt them later. my kids are little (1 1/2 & 3) and i try to let them be little people, not babies. i watch my mouth, i skip that track on cds that f-bomb, they don't get to watch family guy with me, or play doom or quake, but they do get to go to ben harper concerts, run around naked, inside and out, speak their little minds, make huge messes eating, painting, playing, etc. my point is, let them decide if they like/dislike something, you will thank yourself for it later. kudos to ghy on a great venue! i wasn't there to see a stupid band, i was there to watch people jump their bicycles. if any of you who complain were there for any other reason, you are a bunch of idiots! lucky, i'll take you up on that ride anytime, i live in sw wa so i would be more than happy to show you around post canyon sometime, but you better leave your elitist attitude at home. see the trails down here are actually legal to ride so we don't have to exclude people or keep secrets and huge attitudes. i thrive on empty internet theats by whiney bike snobs so pm me so we can hook up to ride. k?

How about noise. Anybody offended by plain ol noise? Jet turbine chainsaw barking garbage compactor angle grinder noise?

Nobody sees my point, and that's okay. It's ridemonkey after all.

I dont think they hired anyone, that was part of my point that these guys showed up with all there gear and played for free, I didnt like it but I appreciate the effort, I almost felt sorry for them. I think I noticed some music I did not like for about a minute and then blocked it out becuse I was consintrating on the sick riding. For you that were up stairs right next to it there was a much better view of the comp downstairs. If the music ruined the event for then you should just stay at home were your safe from unwanted "noise", maybe watch a some t.v. were you can change the channel if it affends you.

Like I said, I left early. It really was that distracting.

It's too bad that they didn't get paid for their effort though, being a band and all.

You guys are funny. Seriously, are you all really as hick as I think you are? w h i t e t r a s h isn't anything to be proud of.

Whatever. I guess all of your incorrect boxxes you try to put me in are as narrowminded as how I see you. So for that I'm sorry, but it really is how things were presented.

lol,.. for the record:

Politics: none aka independant - Leftys and Righties suck ass.

Roadie or messenger elitist: neither - my bar beater isn't the fastest and it isn't fixxed.

Freeride or wannabe bmx: Freeride, if it doesn't have gears and a front brake,.. I don't want to ride it. Now if it's 20",.. that's legitimate (unlike you bastards). I may not try it, but I love to watch it. Just not to death metal.

Male or Female: All Man right here. For the hick that wanted to hit me, try emailing me and schedule an appointment for your face removal. If you'd rather ride, we can do that too.

Mike: I used to listen to some Zao and still do occasionally,.. but there are so many other kinds of music out there. I certainly won't be forcing my kids to listen to metal till I think they are ready for it. It'll be more of a music education thing,.. I'd rather start them on punk, jazz, and blues for the history of it. Metal just seems so ,.. I don't know,. dead end?

And for all the other cowards that can't bring themselves to defend their point of veiw without a fake profile, that's cool. I know you are fake. Everyone else that knows me, knows that I'm not full of **** and that I've done my time for cycling in the NW. My opinion DOES matter. So seriously, for the love of all things pure: no metal next year eh?

Joel Moreland

p.s. bib? I think I've met you in person and if not I look forward to it. No hard feelings, just trying to point out a socially akward music selection. The riding and organization was spot on.

fair enough, I have lost track of this whole thing and forgot what started and dont really care enough to read back...but no hardfeelings eiother. It just gave a local band at a bigger event to play at and alot of others still had fun, wether they were mocking the band or enjoying it.

Hey joel before you knock on specialized Mtn bikes that don't have front gears or two brakes just think about how specialized your trials bike is. There are two sides to everything, and instead of posting a bunch more lets just all grab some sort of non-motorized, pedal powered, wheeled machine and go ride it around.
