Just stating the obvious here, but the SC trails have been in amazing shape for the past week. Go out and get it before it starts raining again. I got in some great riding this weekend with markk (and his bro Tim and friend Mike) and surfinguru. Also ran into TotalHeckler and Matt on Sunday - always cool to meet people from the forum out on the trails. Here are a few pics:

On Sunday I played around with the helmetcam on a certain trail which doesn't exist. Finally got around to editing it. Something is weird with the conversion from .mov to .wmv, like there are some sections where there are dropped frames and it looks kinda jerky (for example the step-up at the end). Dunno what's up with that, but it looks fine in the original. I don't think I have the compression settings dialed yet either, it definitely has some artifacts that aren't in the original. Oh well. Check it out:

Anyone know how to actually download files posted on putfile so you can play them offline? Any suggestions for other good sites that let you host video?

Actually that first pic I took:thumb:

I'm going out there tomorrow noonish if anyone wants to.

Also, I have my Norco Six for sale if anyone needs a good middle travel trail/freeride bike. It's posted in the Norcal forsale section.:oink:

That trail looks really nice right now. How hard is that last step-up? I'd go for it but it seems really easy to land on the uphill part.

I'm going to be up there around 2 tomorrow I think. Parking at the bottom and pushing up. Yell "ridemonkey!" if you see a guy on a DHR with a blue Fox Shox jersey.

The step up is really basic. It kicks you a bit the first time. But really, if you clear that double before it, you have enough speed to coast it into the step up. Since I am a little heavier (185) I do a small break check before I hit the lip. Landing on the uphill sucks, the more on the landing you land, the smoother it is.

If it’s not raining tomorrow, want to try and meet up? Anyone?

Mark, credit goes to you then for that picture! Hey did you ever find your keys?

As far as the landing for the step up goes? Eh, no big deal. The bigger you go the harsher the landing will be, but it's easily survivable. Just don't come up short is all I can say....(RIP Mavic 729...:nopity: )

Sorry boys, can't ride until at least Sunday....

I would just say it's better to land long than short (right Rich? :)). Like TH says if you hit the step down smooth that's a good indicator that you have the right speed. I'd say hit the step down and just coast it the first time. It depends on the conditions too. If it gets a little damp you might have to pedal a couple times. I remember when I first hit it about a week ago I had to pedal after the step down; now I usually do a tiny brake check if anything.

If I'm around and it's not too wet I'll be out there. It was nice this morning. If it doesn't start raining again it will probably be in good shape.

Yeah, very true. It's suprisingly easy to overclear the stepdown tranny. For the most part, once you get up to speed from the initial take off at the top of the trail, it's all just flow and coast - even the step up.

Jim, I got a really good deal on a replacement 729 and built it up last night with help from Shane. It was my first attempt and required quite a bit of help, but very enlightening to learn what it takes to build a wheel.

Found my keys:banghead:
They were in the back of my truck. I must have put them there when I was getting rope to tie down the bikes. Not smart...

When did you case the step-up? last Sunday? Thought I was going to when I rode Thursday. Managed to nose-it though.

Thinking of riding tomorrow. Anyone going up there?
