Seriously! I've got a few options for a dh bike/frame for next season, but this really looks appealing given the price and component spec. I've searched the archives, done google searches, look at the geometry specs endlessly, and tried to hunt down any other information besides what the catalog/website has on it. However, I am hoping someone out there has spent time on the EC-D and wanna hear what, if any, comments people have on the bike...suspension performance, stiffness, overall feel, etc...

...all I had to do was ask the really cool guys at the Hyundai/Mongoose trailer at the Norba Finals in VT. and they let me ride one around their paddock area in the grass.

The geometry seemed spot on for railing turns, and it seemed pretty light too. The 05 Boxxer WC that was on it though wasn't set up for sh!t - so that kind of effected my ability to get a better feel for it, but other than that it pedaled well, and felt solid.

I wish I was in So Cal! However, I am stuck here in Northern Virginia/Metro DC. I have a second job at a bike shop in the area, just to fund the habit, and you know what that means. Overall, the spec and overall cost of the bike just seems to be to hard to pass on, as it would greatly open up travel/race options for this season...at least when compared to what I was going to buy and build up.

i find it funny how nobody can give any riding info on the bike.
That's the problem I have been running into. Luckily, SKC has some insight and a least a parking lot spin on it. I've been told that the EC-D's will start shipping in February and pre-orders have been very good so far, so I don't expect them to last long.

well i'm going to be a bit biased here, but i think it's a great bike.
the bike feels stiff and is very nimble and responsive.
the suspension i ride is differnet then the stock bike, but looking at the part spec you can see it's all good stuff.
and you won't find a cheaper priced top level dh bike.
we just did a demo day with a group for my mongoose tribe grassroots team and they were blown away.

if any of you SBF guys are out there fell free to give your feedback.

A good friend of mine is a product developer for Mongoose and has offered to send me a demo DH and 4X bike to see if Go-ride.com would be interested in selling them. I'm not sure if that is a product line our customers would be interested in to not. However, if there is some genuine interest from Ridemonkeys I'll have have Mongoose send me a couple of demos for testing.

What do you think?

I have to say that the bike is really nice. It's much lighter than my DHR. It was stiff and tracked well. Scary how high this thing wants to jump. I would have love to have it to myself for the whole day but I've been told I must share. I wasnt in love with the Boxxer fork but I am used to a 888 RC and I realize I'm quite biased by it. The overall opinion on the team is that this is a winning race bike and we can't wait to see what it does under fire.

Thanks again BC

I rode one of the '05 Mongoose DH bikes at a race this last season. I really liked it. It's a bit different than the EC-D, but the frame design looks similar (same Freedrive, etc). It felt light enough to do what you wanted to do with it, but burly enough that you weren't afraid to really push it. I don't know if it was the way the shock was set up, but you could really feel the travel begin to ramp up about half-way through the stroke. It was kind of a weird feeling, but it made the bike pedal really well through rocky stuff.

I think it would be great for go-ride to carry them. It's a great bike at a great value from the little time I've been around one, but i think goose has a huge distribution problem. We really need to get some cheaper alternative out there for people. Plus who woulda thought several years ago that IH would be considered a top end bike, same thing could happen to mongoose if they put the effort into it like IH.

Scott, if nothing else, I would also love to hear your opinion on them if you were able to demo them. Knowing what you have put out in online reviews, and what Go-Ride has accomplished working with Ventana on the El-Cuervo (which is also on my short list), your opinion and insight would be killer! I don't think adding a company like Mongoose would hurt Go-Ride, as I can only see it offering a tight budgeted minded racer yet another reason to go with Go-Ride.

I rode a black diamond I noticed suspension is way stifferwhen you bounce on the pedals as compared to bouncing on the seat. is this the case on the ec-d???? and if so how does it affect the ride???

That's what I noticed when I took an EC-D down a local trail... I've never been on a DH bike that transfered power as cleanly as that bike. Given, it was EC's bike and set-up, but it accelerated a lot better than my Sunday. I've even changed my shock set-up to try and get close. Don't know how it handles the rough though.

so you are saying it is positive???? because I viewed it on the diamond as negative because you are going to be standing when on the dh course.... What about brake jack????

Hi,
Any idea of sizing I'm 6ft1" and was thinking of running a M/L. I enquired at a store about avalibility and I also asked about size they told me that the M/L has a top tube from centre of head tube to centre of seat tube 20.1" if so that is very short for a M/L sized bike. I was under the impression - from the geometry on Mongoose.com that it had a 24" inch top tube.

Anyone have the heads up regarding the sizing.

Cheers in advance

I have had a Black Diamond for about a year and it is great. It rides like a DHI. IT sprits well and there is no break jack that I can tell. Lots of guys here in Utah are riding the Dhi and they say the same thing. If you dident know it was a mongoos you would think it was a GT.
