I am looking for a DH bike and you guys here seem to be some gurus when it comes to equipment. Maybe you all can give me some good info.

So far I rode the Sunday, a Turner and a Demo 9.
I only tried them out in the parking lot of the local shop, and the Demo 9 seems to drop off curbs a little nicer, the handling really amazed me.

On the other hand, the Sunday w/ the DW link seems to traction really well on the flat corners, but then again, the Turner seemed more agile.

Any ideas? All of those bikes came w/ nice disc brakes, is that overkill?

What kind of rider are you are and how do you ride? Are you a plower or do you finesse the bike through rocks and stuff, etc.? Do want to mostly race, freeride, or do all around stuff?

BTW, are you from Santa Barbara, CA (just wondering)?

I want a bike that will let me do all around stuff.
I'm smooth when riding, but I want a bike that will take whatever I throw at it. I like doing tricks too.

Those M3 bikes look pretty nice too, but I heard that Santa Cruz makes a cheaper version that doesn't bob so much, any thoughts on those two bikes?

look into canfield brothers, F1 or Lucky, either way can't go wrong, built strong to take whatever you can dish out, race or free ride like a dream, no pedal bob, cromo front triangle for years and years of abuse.:clue:
That sounds good!

You can do a search, there have been countless threads about DHRs, Demo 8s, and Sundays.

The Santa Cruz V10 is a different bike than the Intense M3, fyi. They have the same suspension design but different everything else.

Disc brakes are a necessity for anything other than XC. None of the bikes you listed are 'all around" they're all pigs going uphill, they're meant to be pushed/driven/carried to the top and ridden down.

That said, I have a DHR and I love it, it's very nimble and quick. It's different from a V10 in that V10s like to stay stuck to the ground and go fast whereas a DHR can be jumped and hopped way more easily. The downside is that it's not super stable like a V10 when stuff gets steep or fast.

Demo 8 gets my vote, rather than the demo 9, i have ridden both, and for my personal rig, i own a bighit w/ a simmilar geo and the same travel as the demo 8. you cannot beat FSR suspension technology for performance, despite what other people may say. the suspension is completely unaffected by braking and pedaling forces, so it is always fully active. the demo 8 II comes out of the box a race ready rig, except for the headset which i would switch out. the fox 40 rc2 is an excetional fork, i have a lot of experience on it, and have come up with no complaints except for the fact that the stock bumpers dont stay in place when wet. but that is a very very minor thing, the demo 8 is also more agile than the demo nine, and it is a fair amout lighter too

get out and test ride all of them well though, most shops will let you play around in the near area, one will feel right for you, In my opinion, the bikes line up like this:
Demo 8/9 is gonna be the most well rounded bike, and will probibly offer the most "float" due to the fact that it is FSR technology

the Turner would get my next vote, and it will be the most agile of the bikes,
the sunday, though a nice setup i would choose last out of the bikes listed due to my personal requirements in a bike,

turners are very versatile, they can be built up super light and race style (boxxer air, carbon parts, yada yada ya), or you can throw lets say a 888 on there, some burly wheels and the bike will just eat everything, personally I love the bike, sorry i don't have more facts to back up my opinion but i've been riding it for a bit over a year now and thuroughly love it

I will do some racing too...which one of those bikes are more suited for racing?
Even though the Turmer is highly recommended, now I am in between the Sunday and Demo 9.
When I ride w/ my friends they all say I ride like Sam Hill, so probably the Iron Horse fits my style a little better.
But then, I also throw down some tricks, and Kyle Strait is a trick master, and he rides a Demo, right?

Dude, you have access to 3 of the better racing frames out there that you can actually spend a little saddle time on. Buy the one that feels right. It's not rocket science.

Unless you have ridden enough bikes to the point where you can differentiate between different geometry traits and suspension characteristics, there is nothing better than actually being able to straddle a rig before you buy it.

Honestly, what else do you want to hear? Consider yourself lucky that you have some kick ass shops around you and have a big' ol wad of coin lying around and have a good time.

Demo 8. Short chainstays for manuverability, a low BB for cornering, and adjustable geo.

Holy **** you must be fast..
All are good bikes, go Demo 8 instead of 9 if you are racing. Scratch that... The only good bike is the Stab Supreme... Buy mine ; )

Ride them all, whichever feels best to you, buy. Between a Demo 8, Sunday, or DHR you can't go wrong. They're all amazing bikes. Sorta like trying to decide between a Maybach and a Bentley, or a Ferrari or Lamborghini. You'll be happy no matter which one you pick.

My question now is in regards to the rear travel of the Demo vs. the Sunday. I narrowed my search down to these 2 bikes cuz people I ride with either say I ride like Sam Hill or throw tricks like Strait.

When riding the Sunday the rear wheel path seemed to give some pedal feedback, while the demo didn't influence the pedaling.

Any ideas on which one has less pedal feedback? Would a floating brake solve that?

The bikes don't make those riders. Sam Hill dominated on a SGS before the Sunday, and if he was signed by, say, Santa Cruz he would dominate on the V10. Same think with Strait, he kicked ass on a Haro before being signed by Santa Cruz.

They're both awesome bikes. From what it sounds like you don't have a lot of experience with DH bikes, so you'll be happy with whichever one you choose.

i dont mean to be rude but it would be hard to name a bike worse for dh than a demo 9.
There are much worse rides than a Demo 9 IMO, maybe you can enlighten us on why its so bad?

I don't know what you are talking about, I've been droppping off roofs way before Canadians were.

I agree that bikes don't make riders, but on Synopsis every rider says Sam Hill and Bryn Atkison are great riders. Bryn now rides a GT and he is not on Hypnosis! That only tells me one thing...I guess I am buying a Sunday. Or maybe a Turner, I saw a lot of Turners on those videos.

Any thoughts on the forks? I am thinking on getting an Avalanche, any feedback on those?

If you're looking for something that works well, easy to maintain and will last longer than some of the afore mentioned "one season frames", then go for the morewood. I've had saddle time on GT, Giant DH team, Orange 223, and morewood Izimu. I've had alot of friends ask for help to fix wonky pivots on their multi-pivot DH bikes (especially the Turner) and have come to the conclusion that unless you've got a pro mechanic to back you up at races, sinlge pivots are the way to go and the Morewood Izimu is bar none, the best one out there.

My mistake about your experience. And Bryn Atkinson is in Hypnosis, he's got one of the first parts, a whole lot of dirt jumping. His performance only tells me one thing... he's still fast on a GT. Brial Lopes rides a GT too. Eric Carter is on a Mongoose.

I really think you should get over what bikes are in the videos and what pros are riding what bikes. Those bikes are all amazing, pick the one that you like, not what Strait likes, and you will not be dissapointed.

Yeah, I know Strait rides Specialized. I was typing too fast.

1 - that isnt anything to be proud of.

get a v10, IMO best race bike out there. reasons: 1 pedaling, it pedals insanely well. that is on the race track. no one cares if a bike can climb a hill. 2. it takes Huge hits, rocks , anything like a grain of salt, literally. i have never ridden a bike that i could hit a rock garden so fast in. i was amazed. 3 It corners very well, no matter what anyone says. with all the sag the bb is damm low and it feels as though its on rails. 4 its got over 10 inches of travel. nuff said there. 5 its a SANTA CRUZ. one of the highest quality handmade in the us frame you can buy. 6 Its mad light. i did nothing to make my bike overly light. and yet the full on DH set up weighs 40lbs. you cant beat that
