I couldn't go because of some healing injuries. This is the first one I've missed since 2000. I was seriously bummed until I saw some of these mud pics that have been posted. The sad thing is that 4cross track would be fun as sh!t if it were dry, right now it would be fun on my CRF, maybe.
WTF, that thing is completely flat!! They used to call those bmx tracks. The name "mountain cross" implies the use of a mountain. I am glad I stuck with my resolution not to give any more of my money to the otter. I see they were prepared well ahead of time as usual...

They actually had to move the course a couple days before the event as from what i was told the original course was sliding down the hill from all the rain.

You can dog that course, but I think it looks good (except for the sh** mud). It has a fast outside line and technical inside line. For too many years there has only been one line down the MX course at Sea Otter...this course looked to change some of that. I don't care if the course was "flat" as long as it was competative.
I guess nobody here actually rode the course, IMO it was a million times better than last years' even though it was flat. Who cares if it was BMXey, I enjoyed it.
It was also the only gravity track not bogged down in mud. Qualifying had a couple of waterbeds but the amateur finals were dry and fast. I know it's fun and cool to make fun of all races but keep quiet if you're only speculating.
I didn't ride it but it sure looked fun. I talked to a lot of racers and every one said they enjoyed it, especially the fact that the races weren't over until the very end. Sure the holeshot was important but there were a few alternate lines throughout the course that made line selection really important and resulted in some exciting racing. Lots of passing, t-bones, and door slamming out there. The jump after the first turn was giving lots of people fits, it was a pretty steep and sketchy and threw most people into the face of the next jump/landing transition. Many abrupt cases and some nasty crashes, including one dude who almost got an ambulance ride but then jumped up and ripped down the rest of the course, that was awesome.

It actually did end up being a great 4X course when the mud dried on Sunday. The alt. inside lines with all the hip jumps were great. Unforntunately, they cut down practice that morning by an hour. You needed more time to get all that fun stuff on the inside turns dialed.
