Well, I'm not much of a DHer, but that one jump towards the end where he lands on the berm is freaking cool.

Off topic, does anybody have a report on the condition of the XC course? Are we riding though hub-deep water like last year? How are they routing the 1.5 laps for the sport class? Paging Zark the map dude.

New map is on the RideSB site. Course conditions are phenom except for a mudbog on dump trail. Not sure on the exact routing for sport, but I think they cut off the gut buster to the top of the DH course for one lap?? not sure.

Hmmm, I sure hope the organizers know the route. Last year there were question marks right up until the start. Sounds like I should run some wet conditions chain lube then?

Iv dont 3 laps on the XC in the last week its not muddy and the rain yesterday will dry up fast. There is still the river section with moving water about 3 to 6 " deep and there was 1 mud hole at the end of a down hill section about 5' wide. It will be in the low 80 sat and sun. so I think the course will be dry.. PS I might go and ride it tonight so I will post conditions.

This will be such a fun race.
Not really, that course does not look very challenging.
It's time for riders to step up and but some courses together for aggressive riding.

...Shutup dumbass!!! Have you ever ridden it?

1. In videos, things always look smaller, especially in one of this size.

2. Most all SB is rocky slower/tech stuff. This is the only fast/flowy trail (i guess next to knaps). If you don't like fast and flowy, ride through the rock garden, or just go ride the front country (don't forget your bell:) ). I think it is the most fast/flowy race in CA.

3. It's kind of hard to build technical/challenging features when the area only has smooth rolling hills.

:mumble:

the fact that this course is so fast and flowy is what makes it refreshing to ride for soCal riders. we have so much rocky technical terrian that haveing a course like this is sort of a change of pace. All the guys working on the course have been so stoaked with how well it came out. I admit i wish there were more tech features, but like the other guy said, it hard to have have tech when the course is made on rolling hills. This course really is one of the "funnest" courses i have ridden.

Well, it doesnt have to be technical to be fun. This course will highlight who has better cornering skills/speed technique than who can go out and risk getting the worse injury.

Very well said, both of you!

MadDHer probably isn't good enough for firestone anyway. If he shows up, maybe it would be better if he did laps in the field.

That's true. When I went to Bootleg a few months ago I think I had more fun on some of the fast XC'ish type stuff then the DH trails just because I've ridden in the rocks long enough. Don't get me wrong it's fun and all but going a little bit faster helps the excitement factor out alot.

The course does look fun and has a lot of flow to it. Everyone has to remember that even though Firestone is in the mountains it's not like going 3,000ft up and dropping. For the space and size of the event that course rocks. You can only do so much with rolling hills.

Goodluck guys!

Haha. No need to get all huffy about this. If you don't like the course fine. You may or may not be missing out. It all depends on what you ride normally. For most of us SB guys we are getting tired of the Tunnelesque trails of our area. Firestone is one of the funnest trails I've ridden w/ some of the most laid back people I know. I come out to this race every year mostly for the atmosphere. There isn't that racerboy mentality in the air like other races. I mean, there may be some random dudes who think they are hot $hit, but they're the minority. The video doesn't do it justice obviously, just like any DH/freeride video out there. Just wanted you guys to get the jist of it. Peace.

James needs to get a bigger shirt. I think we should start a fund of some sort.

It was a fun weekend, I think everyone enjoyed ripping the course; before, during, and after the race.

The race was fun. I got 17/32. The first time, my drivetrain was mess up coming out the first berm after the G-out. Down below, I was sprinting (couldn't do much) in a really low gear, because it wouldn't upshift.

Second run, I washed out, and went over that same berm. If my drivetrain was good and I didn't crash there, I could have done a lot better.

I made oliver (DHSBrider) lose his bet. sorry

Maybe I will have my pics up by next week. I need to get the film developed, get a monitor calibrator and calibrate it, get the gallery up....

The race was awesome... mtnbrider, did you make your first run? You were cutting it pretty close.

And anyway I don't care if it wasn't technical at all, it's still a super fun trail. And if you think about the tiny hill they had to work with they did a great job. It was a great local race

I agree about the course. It was super fun for a little hill, or anywhere for that matter.

I had an awesome time. It was really fun just seeing how long you could go before you mashed on the brakes. Fast and flowy for sure and I was beat by the end of every run from pedaling my ass off.

Today, I did Jr. 18> Sport. I got first place out of 2. My time was like 1:37. I was jumping off everything in site and and wheeling all over the trail. I made all the climbs (except the mud on out of the creek, and 1 other nearby) on my 35lbs hardtail with a single ring. I was so fast on the downhills.

Any other monkies do the xc?

It's funny how I came out to try and do good at DH and got first in XC that I thought I would be killed.
