that's why we drink it here
Been commuting for a month or so pretty regularly. Just got sideswiped by some a$shat trying to pass me going around a blind turn when I was keeping up with traffic.

Luckily the pavement was wet and I slid smoothly to a stop from 35mph (this was down a good size hill, I'm not embellishing) and didn't lose any skin. Just a couple cuts on my left index finger. Denim saved my butt.

The driver looked ready to stop, but sped back up when I got right to my feet and started shouting with two fingers held high.

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for here. I'm not hurt. I just wanted to vent since I didn't get to yell at the driver. I hope I left a scratch and gave them a good scare at least.

I used to ride somehere around ten miles to school every other day. On one of my rides back, last semester, some guy didn't see me in the bike lane and tried to merge into me. He merged and oversteared into me, pretty much.

I didn't get bumped hard, but I went straight into a ditch. When I got my legs untangled, I noticed that he had driven away and I had a popped rear. It was a five mile walk until I got picked up by some friends.

That pretty much made me stop commuting on my bike. I always had a horrible time crossing busy intersections even with cross-lights going, so it just pushed me over the edge. I think I'm going to turn my older commuter into a single speed and start commuting summer semester.

Don't give up.

Yeah i got a mirror to the handlebar about 2 years ago, that throws you really fast. I was lucky that it threw me away from traffic, however i did land in poison oak, fortunatly i didnt get hurt.

Boston....outside of it....
wow.

what kind of @sshat doesn't stop to see if you are ok?

you should have just stayed on the ground, and maybe the driver would have had a guilt trip from hll when he was eating dinner that night......

I've commuted to work once, and the only thing that I seriously got worried about was a bus that was getting too close.

I once was moving pretty fast and got cut off by a taxi, hit the brakes until the rear jussssst started to float up, then bumped his rear bumper. It was enough to go over the bars. I managed to jump over the bars, land on my feet, all with my right hand still on the bars, got back on, then kept riding. All this with a pretty fresh ACL rupture.

All that good Karma down the tubes....

Maybe I'll get a helmet this summer....

that sucks. I hate people who hit and run! no matter what they hit.

I am glad you are Ok. Had my, (and my dogs) favorite Vet killed by a car while riding out of our local park! The only bad thing about riding on the road is A$$HOLE drivers!

again glad you're OK!

Front Range, dude...
I used to commute alot, back in my health club employee days. Never had any problems then, but...
"Back in the day" when I was a full on roady, I got plinked by a guy who blew a stop sign. Bent frame, road rash, nothing serious. What was great was when got out and started yelling at me about his cars paint. Then the forest preserve cop tried to say she was going to ticket me. She seemed amazed when I pointed to the stop sign and the 10 or 15 witnesses who said he was at fault. He was cranking up the techno on his car stereo and missed the sign! The best part is that I totally overestimated the value of the bike to the insurance guys, and got about a grand more than it was worth!

I got ran off the road last summer, 1/2 block from my house, leaving for a road ride. I had to bail onto the sidewalk to avoid getting pinched between the curb and the car, same thing, the car didn't stop. I still have a big scar on my knee where it ate the concrete. At least I was close to home though, so I dragged my bleeding butt back to my lawn and just laid there for awhile.

Drivers who run into bikes suck, accidents happen, but drivers who run into bikes and don't stop, really piss me off!

It's amazing - everyone has a story when they ride road. And, yet we still do it. :D I commute at least 2 times a week right now and am going to try to get it to 3-4 once the weather evens out a bit more. Some dude ran past a stop sign to block the bike path I was on. I was doing about 20 and almost t-boned his passenger door. It would have been kind of funny in that he was in a convertible with the top down, so I would have gone over the bars and ended up in his passenger seat or his lap.

I'll keep with it no doubt. Smug emissions be damned.

Also, noticed this morning that one of the rivets on my pants is ground almost flat. Nice little momento :)

I'll call a buddy at the local police later to see if anyone reported the prick. Worth a try I guess.
