Quote of the day from a male, former pro MTBer;

"Man, I can not think of anything worse than saying 'I won the fontana national' but on the other hand, I can not think of anything worse than doing badly at 'the fontana national'...and to think I thought Helen Ga. was bad."

A message to all those bashing NORBA, GET A CLUE! NORBA is a sanctioning body whose sole purpose is to govern the sport and provide benefits, otherwise un-affordable, to it's members. If tou are unhappy with the state of the National Mountain Bike Series, you should be bashing the the promoters. NORBA has not promoted an event since the late 1990's. When they did run their own show there was TV coverage, huge sponsorships and plenty of cash in the pro purse. Fast forward to 2006, where is the prize money?, the sponsors?, the good vibe? I'm not sure but I think I saw Frosty swipe the vibe at Mt. Snow last year! For those who wish to see how sucessful a NORBA event can actually be, check out the Innaugural Capital Cup at Whitetail resort. For more info, check out www.racersedgeonline.com
Norba has to give the final yes or no. Norba hires these "promoters". Norba has to provide prize money in order to have the series be worth anything (ie: uci points). The responsibility lies squarely on norba's shoulders. If your contractors suck when renovating your house, you fire them. Get the point?

NORBA now gives the ok to total crap events, charges more money than ever and gives racers 0 value for their dollar. They also treat athletes at these events like they are doing the athletes a favour instead of treating them like paying clients. Not to mention, their showpiece "star" athletes that they brag about get zero payment for winning a race.

Many of us here have been racing NCS/NMBS races since the early to mid 90s when they started. We have seen & lived the regression. Many of us no longer attend the waste of time that is a norba national.

In conclusion, NORBA NMBS races are a complete waste of time.

You are correct, Carlin Dunne won. Either way, he should have been in Semi-pro since he raced it the year before and did well. They "lost" his license information.
They didnt lose it, he never even applied. He gave himself the upgrade the year before without even going through NORBA.

Jackinthebox what was the top 5 or 10? What about the margin of the win and what not? How was the course?
Course was pretty good, really good for what they were working with location wise. I think JD had it by a pretty good margin. I don't remember the rest of the results. I got 4th in JR.X 16 and under with my friend Ride To The Hills in 5th, and Mad Dog in 3rd.

Top 5 was JD with a 2:18, then Spenser Bruce with a 2:22, Hank Cadle 3rd, Daniel Hultgen 4th, and Jake C. rounded out the top 5.

Heikki,
I actually attempted a couple times to upgrade with no sucess, so I just descided to race semi. I finallu called the lady who handles the West Coast upgrades, and I'm not sure if anuthing was ever changed. I had similar luck with the upgrade from semi to pro.

Also to Wydopen, I did get 2nd to Carlin that year, but that was with a pretty bad wreck and no DH bike. The year before was when I won on the hardtail.

In Mt.x final Jake C. fully hip-checked miles payton off the course in the final turn, so JD won, Taylor Calvert passed the wreck to take 2nd, and i'm not sure between Jake C. and Miles Payton for 3rd an 4th.
In the JrX mountaincross Jake Capriotti checked me in the round of 16. The final 4 was JD 1st, Taylor Calvert 2nd, I forget 3rd and John Hauer was 4th.
