Strange.........I think I was busy making fun of ALL mountain bikers in the flourescent, road bike geometry days because........well.........the sport was kind of ghey back then. The bikes sucked and people thought it was just fine to let that mullet flop, the pink and purple fly high, and rock the oakley factory pilot steez in a speed suit and a styrofoam cooler on your head. I just couldn't get into a sport where bunny hopping was a mandatory pedal pull because you couldn't get over the back wheel. And you were supposed to ride these over rocks and roots?
So I guess I'll go as far back as Palmer. Cuz he came out of nowhere and killed it.

Farmer John absolutely. He did it all: BMX, DH, XC, and he schooled everyone. Johnny T was getting big air on hardtails with rigid forks way before Bender was sailing his engineless motocross bike.
