I've seen it done...but now that the frame is in front of me I can't figure out the cable routing. Seems like they only have cable guides/stops for the rear derailleur/brake. How do you make it work? Do I need a specific front derailleur? Thanks. -Chris

I do not know the frame very well, but if there is not a front der. stop welded on the frame, you could buy a clamp on one.

I had a 2004 SX
If I recally correctly you run it along the down tube, into the plastic channel at the bottom of the bottom bracket and it snakes up in behind where you'd mount the front derailleur to the bike. I ran an XT front d. I'll see if I can fish up some pictures.

This is correct. You will find a threaded hole in the underside of the bb shell, a plastic cable guide bolts to the hole. There is a front d cable stop in the first group of stops at the top of the down tube, the cable runs w/o housing the rest of the way to the front d. You can get the plastic part from any Specialized dealer, they are cheap and common.

Ha, it can transform into a 4x bike with the addition of a shorter stem and a chainguide in no time:cool:

Thanks for the help...got the front derailleur hooked up...but the cable rubs the frame a bit...I'll just have to do some ghetto rigging
